#SIRU2014 Round Fifteen Preview Some teams will be refreshed by the bye last week, while some teams may be unhappy with the break-up of their momentum leading into the closest finals series SIRU has seen in recent years. We really won’t know who sits where until the final round which is a very...

    Refereeing decisions

The defence has to be pretty quick for this to happen. Also, the attacking team need to make sure they don't have their blockers shielding the ball carrier which would result in an obstruction penalty.

    Refereeing decisions

If I was refereeing that, I would play advantage to the attacking team for the defending team leaving the lineout, then see what happens. If the attacking team infringe, PK to attacking team for defenders leaving the lineout. Like I said, there are too many variables for this to result in a PK...

    Refereeing decisions

My issue is that this is a neagtive tactic and there are a number of variables that the defending team would have to adhere to before I looked at penalising the attacking team in this instance. As with most areas of the game, there are any number of infringements that can be looked at and it...

    Refereeing decisions

If the ball is at the front and the ball carrier is available, what's the problem? No need to call "use it", the maul can move down the field.

    Refereeing decisions

Play on. No one came along to the rugby to watch me blow my whistle about a pedantic lineout call, get the ball into play and talk to the hooker on the run or at the next lineout. "You were lucky they didn't jump otherwise ball not straight". Depends on the situation, there are a number of...

    Refereeing decisions

TBH, I don't agree with it but I think that this is the best outcome that the game can expect at the moment. Rugby is a contest for possession and one team has actively chosen not to contest for possession in these instances. I think that the tactic is negative by the "defending" team and that...

Anyone seen the IRB direction regarding players not contesting at a maul formed from a lineout? Thoughts?

Waratahs v Brumbies, SFS Saturday 26 July

Well done Waratahs, defence was outstanding last night and you guys took the chances when they came. Brumbies played well but couldn't crack the Waratahs defence. Bring on next weekend in Sydney, set pieces are going to be key in that game.

The General Bye this weekend in SIRU gives us all the chance to watch the Brumbies smoke the Waratahs tomorrow in Sydney. It's also a great chance for everyone to take a deep breath and strap themselves in for the final 5 weeks of rugby! Go the Brumbies!

I'm looking forward to this weekend, the Waratahs have been playing some great footy this year and I'm really looking forward to them sticking to that time honoured Waratahs tactic of playing great footy during the season, only to get to the pointy end of the season and fall over spectacularly...
