    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2013

For those who are interested - Steve Walsh has been appointed to referee the 1st XV match between Scots and Newington this weekend

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2013

The reason it got changed is because players would be cynical in their own red zone, and the yellow card would be useless because they would get another player on. The drop a player for yellow/red card in schoolboy matches only came around in 2009 - prior to that you did get a replacement. If...

    Shute Shield 2013

From my experience, when I drop down from Subbies Colts to Juniors, having refereed at State Championships and Regionals this year, and dropping back down to Junior Club footy on Sundays, that it is tempting to be pedantic, because the standard is very different. However, what I have found is...

    Shute Shield 2013

I agree to an extent with Steve Walsh, however, it has to be said that the way players talk to referees needs to improve as well. If they don't like being talked to that way then they shouldn't talk to the referee that way either! Can't be all your own way!

    Shute Shield 2013

I would definetely say that we are NOT a protected species. Every 1st Grade match has an assessor (some of the assessors include Wayne Erickson, Peter Marshall and John McCarthy). When we are watched, regardless of the level, we do an honest, open review of the game, and the assessor/referee...

    Shute Shield 2013

The reason why Moyes has been doing Colts - the speed of the game at Colts level is seen to be the most similar to Sevens. Fitness is a HUGE factor in refereeing Sevens rugby

    Shute Shield 2013

Just putting it out here - this came up on the CAS thread. What do you guys think the standard of refereeing has been like in the Shute Shield? At the moment Australian refereeing is in a transition phase, with only Steve Walsh (if we can count him) getting regular test matches, but with...

    Shute Shield 2013

In my experience, early in the game if I have the situation where both teams go early, I would reset and have a quick chat. Later in the game, would be dependent if we are having a good scrum day or not. If we haven't had a problem all day, I would probably play on and have a quiet word at the...

    Shute Shield 2013

To give my perspective I'll give you the story of one of my games earlier this season. As a 19-year old new referee with NSW, quite rare to get a Grade game in subbies, mainly been getting Subbies colts and the occasional Premiership 3rd colts. Alas, about 2 months ago, I was given 2nd Div 4th...

    CAS Rugby 2013

FYI - it is very rare that the referees find out the result of judicial hearings.

I don't follow this closely but what happened to the other two? From the results Kings would have benefitted greatly from this

    CAS Rugby 2013

Was good to see that appointment - reason being he was a 1993 Knox leaver and it was the 20 year reunion! As a referee myself, when you drop a few levels from what you usually do the biggest difference is that if the players want to play flowing, attacking rugby, it is a lot easier to...

    CAS Rugby 2013

Take this approach with these referees issues: "Praise in public, critcise in private." Think about it this way. If it was your son, brother, etc., who was out there refereeing, would you like it if they got abused by spectators, or by anonymous people online. Yes we criticise players even...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2013

Just put it out there - a couple of months ago it was touch and go whether the GPS would have independent referees for 1sts and 2nds, because of the amount of abuse they copped last season. You are either a part of the problem or part of the solution. Coming here and complaining is good for...

NSW Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2013

The games on Tuesday are at Knox 1, Friday is at Curagul, Saturday and Sunday are at Knox 1. Was anyone at the Opens trials today? In particular the CHS v ISA 1sts game?

interesting that the 16s and 17s draws had to be changed. GPS must have pulled their Under 16 boys out as well ...

Did anyone go down to watch CHS take on CCC and AICES yesterday?

    Shute Shield 2013

I don't think they would be able to because only 1 of the 6 Shute Shield matches each weekend has a TMO, so there wouldn't be a consistent standard for every game.

    Colts 2013

Uni beat Warringah 84-5 in 1st colts, 80-10 in 2nd colts and 43-0 in 3rd colts. Other scores I heard were that Gordon beat Norths 26-22, and Eastwood beat Manly 25-24 in 1st Colts
