    Shute Shield 2016

The thing to be cautious of when developing through investing in colts is that there needs to be a healthy turnover of Grade playing stocks otherwise the graduating colts can only look forward to playing 3rds or 4ths for an extended period due to the more experienced and equally talented players...

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2016

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. People looking for a situation to polish up their Tin Foul Hat will always find a place to do so. Being Victim is an easy job. We only get to see the how the boys do during 4 games over 7 days. We don't get to assess how coachable they are, or how they conduct...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2016

This coach (& his assistant IIRC) have been in charge of NSW Teams at U16 and opens for a few years now. While I am no Bob Dwyer or Rod McQueen, some of their tactics, game plans, selections and replacement strategies over the years has left me somewhat perplexed. Folks with a Tin Foil Hat...

Selection politics and bias, Gold Squads unfairness etc.

Not sure about coaches but ISA administrators seem to be able to manage to get nominated as Team Manager for both State and National teams. Saxon from Oakhill, Geoff from Stannies, and the bloke from Central Coast Grammar spring to mind.

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Has Junior Gold Cup been too succesful for its own good? The former easy beats like Vic, ACT and WA are starting to challenge and beat NSW and Qld at U20 and U18 Schhoboy levels. Can't have that happening, can we? It wasn't in the script when they pitched the JGC to the Pulverisor.

He actually was a talented athlete at school. He just prioritised his studies in his final year of school over the 1st XV/2nd XV rugby program which required an investment of time that he wasn't prepared to make.

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2016

Hugh's Law says that there will be at least two players who have been nominated for these teams that will be tapped on the shoulder by Team Rehab Selectors. This will happen before the tour, and once they are on tour. It works at all levels. Shadow players have to remain fit, with a current...

^^^^ Corrected. Plenty of precedent for players that were not at Nationals due injury being called up. Usually they are "well known" to the selectors.

For those wanting to have a go at the Selectors, G&GR archives contain these references as a bit of background on two of them: Thoughts on being passed over for national Schoolboys. This gem from the NZ Herald article on Sir Richie GOAT...

    Shute Shield 2016

Probably why the Council is prepared to throw some $ towards SRU for hosting rights. I reckon that they must have the most vigilant parking inspectors around, having had to make some contributions to Council funds over the years.

NSW Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2016

I think Randwick Colts will take some credit for the two CCC players, as both are in their program, with Harrison being a local Eastern Beaches Junior.

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2016

Contrary to popular belief, the distribution of NZ Schoolboys team across the schools in terms of numbers is not dissimilar to ours, although there are a few more public school players. Bear in mind that many of the NZ public schools have aggressive Rugby programs like some of our private...
