Round 4: Hurricanes v Waratahs, Friday 17th March

Obviously Pietch is still not ready, so that's about the best backline available. But Nadolo covering for Jorgensen, who needs maximum help this week, is the stuff of nightmares. I'd have swapped Vailanu and Latu, but I see the logic of keeping Latu to protect the two youngling props. I must...

    SR2023 - NZ Derbies & v Drua/ Moana

No problem. I suggest lurch rests next week, so he doesn't have the further issue of plane travel to Sydney to deal with.;)

    Woops, my bad.

Round 4: Hurricanes v Waratahs, Friday 17th March

Those people who thought a Top Four spot was an easy target for the Waratahs were abruptly brought back to earth after the loss to the Rebels and the realisation that the next three weeks could leave us 1 from 6 after the bye (roughly the half way point of the season). The Hurricanes suffered a...

    SR2023 R3 - Rebels vs Waratahs Friday 10 March @ 7.35pm

If this is really true (yes, I am a doubter) then his improvement has been so great that we should be having him tested for refereeing steroids. My vote would go to Wayne Barnes, he seems to have a good feel for the game as well as the laws.

    Sevens 2022/23 (World Series etc)

How would you like to be Canada this time around. That's a pool of death!

    Reds v Brumbies - Take 1

By the time he gets on the field it could all be done and dusted. Unless they do a rotation, he will not be a starting lock.

    SR2023 R3 - Rebels vs Waratahs Friday 10 March @ 7.35pm

That selection raises a number of issues: Johnson-Holmes is back. That is HUGE for us, the scrum has not been as strong as we need it to be, especially against the NZ teams. He gets one week to get up to speed. This would have been the ideal week to rest Porecki, start Latu and bench Vailunu...

Super Rugby Rd 2: Rebels v Hurricanes

Fair or not, in two weeks time the Waratahs play the Hurricanes in Wellington. An Ardie Savea champing at the bit is not something the Tahs would relish. The Blues this week on the other hand will be cheering non-stop!

    Aussie Player Exodus

I thought Newsome was very, very good in his last year at the Tahs. The original journeyman who suddenly found form at 15. Got squeezed out here with all the talent coming through, but I always thought he'd be great in France. Clermont were lucky to get him.

    Waratahs 2023

I agree, but I think its a bit early to know. Bowen is still very green. He needs to be well managed by the coaching staff by applauding his good performances but constantly reminding him that he needs to mature his body and his 10 game before he'll be ready for a starting role. I doubt this...

    SR2023 R3 - Rebels vs Waratahs Friday 10 March @ 7.35pm

Right now Jorgensen should have a lock on the 23 jersey. After one week on the bench to ease him back, Pietsch should go straight to starting winger. Jorgensen should NOT start any game at 15 this year. Why? Because he is just out of school, just learning the ropes and getting a feel for Super...

    SR2023 R2 - Waratahs vs Drua - Saturday 4 March @ 7.35pm

I don't see that. There are a number of Brumby and Drua players who I am sure would disagree; I wouldn't want him to tackle me any time soon. He doesn't seem to be doing as much lineout catching as he used to.

    Week 2 Brumbies @ Blues

BR: I think you are severely downplaying the strength of the Brumby forwards and the weaknesses in the Blues pack. Yes the Blues backs are extremely dangerous, but if they are trying to work with 20% possession they risk trying to do too much. The Brumbies backs to me were pretty decent last...

    Super Rugby 2023 Rd 1 - Reds v Hurricanes

Looking at the line-ups this is not an easy match to pick for a result. Over the week i have changed my tipping twice and I'm now picking the Canes by a few. On paper the Hurricanes tight five are better, Reds backrow marginally better, the 10's/15's the great unknown, and the Hurricanes 11-14...

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

Latest on the weather forecast: Rain due Thursday and Friday has vanished, after midday tomorrow it'll be warm and dry. Should allow a cracker of a match.

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

G-Rob in the SMH is forecasting that Hugh Sinclair will start and that Perese AND Dylan Peitch are 50-50 to play on Friday. Not sure that Sinclair is our second best lock, but she's usually pretty close to the mark.

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

I think the backs will be Gordon, Edmed, Nadolo, Foketi, Tuipolotu/Perese, Nawaqanitawase, Donaldson with Goddard/Wilson, Perese/Tuipolotu and Jorgensen on the bench. I don't think Jorgensen will start against the Brumbies - they will want to be able to use Nadolo as a strike weapon to overpower...

    SR2023 - NZ Derbies & v Drua/ Moana

First game up and the Crusaders at home to the Chiefs. Trials form had the Chief's starting scrum going backwards, but their broken field counter-attack totally on song and Damian McKenzie in absolutely scintillating form. I'll have to miss it live as I'll be headed to Sydney for the Waratahs...

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

This game could have huge repercussions for the whole season, especially for the Waratahs. One of only two home games against the competition's likely finalists and a loss here would be a huge setback. The Brumbies don't often win in Sydney, while virtually always winning in Canberra. But both...
