A few interesting tidbits (e.g. Hepburn swapping) in the Scotland squad but the one flying just a touch under the radar is Rory Hutchinson leapfrogging Chris Harris into the 5th Center spot. Ollie Smith's injury seems to have thrown a spanner into the works as he and Kinghorn were the only...

    Lions Tour 2025

Yeah, but to my understanding, it would be much the same as Foley not getting to play for the Barbarians when he was released for Aus A. One is a protected fixture, one is a negotiation you have with your club based on the potential for injury etc.

    Lions Tour 2025

Yeah, the Tests are tests. So the game against Argentina would be full releases. But the combined Aus/NZ side is an invitational side, not a capped one: I can't imagine that it will be open season here, rather at the discretion of the club sides.

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

We need to stop rewarding Louwrens for what he does on the training paddock and start judging on what happens on the field.

It's not unreasonable to argue that as centers Proctor and Daugunu have both played their best rugby at 13, hence our 12 options are running one of them "out of position", play a journeyman like Feliuai or Jooste there, or play the "developing" Ripley or Dave Vaihu. I think Daugunu would still...

THe rebels would be the "best" spot for all of them yes. I think the Force, Waratahs and Reds would all make good use of Douglas and probably Holmes as well. Tapuai maybe slightly less so.

Depends what they want to do at 34, 33 and 33, but all would still add value to super squads if it's what they're up for.

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

It's been a while since I've seen any releases about it, but what's the go with the Sports precinct at La Trobe (Uni not Valley)? If the Rugby Center of excellence up that way is close to completion (or they can get access to the Women's Football Facilities) that could be on the table.

The current URC format is also one that makes sense once you concede a double round robin isn't viable. You have 4 equally sized divisions. You play everyone in your division Home & Away, and you play everyone else Home OR Away. Your division consists of your own countries teams*. Top 8 teams...

Leicester Fainga'anuku would be an awesome one to get if you can work around his top 14 contract.

    Lions Tour 2025

I'd imagine it'll be as much of a Wallabies plus overseas ABs as they can secure releases for and/or can justify not keeping in cotton wool for the test the following week. Still imagine that a handful of blokes mentioned within Australia sides will be considered, but I can't think this game...

The one and only Wallaby Coach thread

I think the modern running game doesn't work without the threat of a highly competent tactical kicking game. The modern player has the fitness (or substitute available) and hours of footage to combat most systems which are possession heavy. You don't need to kick all the bloody time, just...

Per Super Rugby: 14 games across only 15 weeks is a lot, before you even consider playoffs potentially taking that up to 17 in 18. I'm no expert in load management, but I can't possibly imagine a case where ensuring those likely to be involved in the 12-15 additional games to come an additional...

The English system has also seen at least 5 long established historic clubs "die" (London Welsh, London Irish, Wasps, Worcester and Jersey) and another 4 (Leeds, London Scottish, Hartlepool and Richmond) give up on seeking anything more than promotion to and/or survival in the Championship. I...

7 from 10 after 8 isn't amazing for the talent in their squad domestically. Champions Cup looks good, but it's based entirely on a single win over the stormers at home who's squad has been stretched after playing in the URC final last season plus all the Springboks only just filtering back...

Putting aside the lack of knowledge of Melbourne's road network and public transportation systems, and the shocking views that ovals/running tracks create, the lack of corporate facilities at other grounds would be a major reason why an ongoing alternative home has not been explored.

    U16/U19 Competition 2023

The oxymoron is indeed amusing: but meant with love. Seriously, I can't help but feel he's the type of resource that should be being used more in Australia, both from a coaching perspective, he's come across as being both very well spoken and strong enough to say what he perceives as difficult...
