CEO does due diligence. More at 6. The fact that no journo was willing to put their name to this article says enough. Good ol' Staff Writers at it again.

To be honest, all you need to do is look at some of the training footage coming out of camps. It's pretty easy to see quite a few going through the motions at a reasonably low intensity - particularly in backs drills (yes I was a forward, why do you ask?)

Agreed - and that's where some common sense and management needs to come in. For Wright, it sounds as though the biggest change was increasing the tempo at which he was doing drills, as opposed to the physicality - which makes sense given speed, agility, and decision making are all central to...

There is an immense financial benefit to the directors (relating to their penalty notices), and that is solely why this has progressed.

Shute Shield: We have such amazing crowds and fan engagement - we're unstoppable and should be spearheading a third tier comp! Also Shute Shield: Our crowds and engagement are suffering by actually making the game accessible to people who can't get to the grounds

There's also a bit of a 'what-if' about it - imagine what Smith could've been if he had actually trained the house down

I thought Frisco was similarly hated? The Bay and SF are local-approved I think

As @Sword of Justice says, there’s obviously other considerations like load management at play. However, with respect to the comments made on Wright, high performance individuals and teams across all industries get the most benefit from training in high fidelity situations that accurately mimic...

Yeah, not condoning it of course, but the Travis Scott concert was probably an anomaly - not just due to the demographic, but also the mindset his Zoomer/tiktok fans have taken on. It was always a bit like that, but it’s become next level. It’s a bit ‘old man yells at clouds’, but I’m saying...

Fair enough, I had somewhat missed the point - the Tom Lynaghs of the world. As you say, we aren't innocent - but certainly not as common as in some of the nations Cully mentions.

Fair point, not apples-to-apples. After a quick look, though, the current ABs squad has 4 players born in the islands and 2 born in Aus. Similarly, the Wobs squad has 4 born in the islands, 4 in NZ, and 1 the UK. I note that place of birth doesn't always reflect in their 'pathway', but poaching...

This dismissal and deflection feels pretty disingenuous. Australia and NZ have been benefitting from the pacific nations, bringing players over at a young age through scholarships etc. in a manner not dissimilar to Japan - but as soon as other nations start doing the same (and Aus/NZ somewhat...

Absolutely - I just had to google the SS teams. I do note that SS is somewhat more geographically dispersed than QPR, making drawing those allegiances a touch easier - but it still does nothing to represent fans from outside of those areas, as a state-based team would do.

My local area growing up had two QPR clubs that were a 5 minute drive from one another, and most of the QPR teams are within a 20km radius - the tribalism really isn't there unless you played for one of them. To be frank, I don't even think most casual rugby fans would know who the QPR teams are...

Honestly, probably not - but even if I did, it's unlikely to capture a wider or more engaged audience (particularly of 'casual' fans - i.e., not someone posting on here) than any of the other options. I disagree that the NRC was a failure, at least of its own doing, but that's been discussed ad...

Again, I think that's a reasonably narrow view, but it's understandable and is no doubt reflective of your experience. In contrast, I've always had an interest in rugby, went to a rugby school, and have always lived within 20 minutes of various prem teams' home grounds - but I have zero...

I'm not much older than yourself but agree with Derp. Outside of some pretty specific circles relating to the neighbourhood you live, school you went to, or family you grew up in, there is pretty limited broader public interest in club rugby. No chance imo. Too many teams in too small an area...
