    Reds v Brumbies - RD10 2013

I agree with much of what's been written about the ref setting a firmer standard at the breakdown early on - with possibly an earlier card. But alongside this, the Red's refusal to take the easy three points meant that the Brumbies had no scoreboard incentive to back off at the breakdown. If...

    Qld Premier Rugby 2012

Is this Eddi Langi from Canberra, and formerly the NPC?

Brumbies vs Sharks Round 6 Super Rugby 2012

Yeah it is an interesting question. The reason I brought up Prior's club form was because I had a sense that people were putting a lot of weight on White's premiership season with Eastwood. So I wanted to point out that, if that's the measure we're using, there’s still not much between them...

Brumbies vs Sharks Round 6 Super Rugby 2012

Although its obviously pretty close between White and Prior, I'm not sure why White is automatically assumed to be the obvious first choice. Did he have outstanding pre-season form? Or is this all based on his efforts with Eastwood last year? If its his club rugby form, I can report that Prior...

    The Wallaby gameplan

I really agree with the comments about our kicking strategy. It seemed like the wallabies believed that just kicking the ball up the other end whenever they had it would amount to field position. Obviously that didnt work out. In my view the best field position kicking comes off front foot ball...

    QLD Premier Rugby 2011

Yep, Con Foley has a sevens contract for next season. He's played both 12 and 13 for Uni this year and been really good, particularly in defence where he makes really good reads and rarely misses. In Attack he's got a good direct game, but is skillful enough to make the most of wide...

    QLD Premier Rugby 2011

In response to tranquility, Shep was very good in the set piece and had some big dominant tackles. He's probably not you're modern ball running prop, but he gives uni a dominant scrum platform and an attacking weapon from five metres out. The only team that really matches the uq front row...

    QLD Premier Rugby 2011

From UQ I can suggest Tim Buchanan. He's in the Red's Academy, but I'm not sure if that counts as being signed...

    Brumbies 2012

Ian Prior was the starting half for QLD UNI last year in a backline featuring Jono Lance (10) Luke Morahan (13) and Tevita Kundrija. He was one of the standouts in an unbeaten (bar the first game) premiership season. Apart from his passing game, defence and general tenacity, the real story here...

    Bulls vs Waratahs, 2011R16

Pull your head in no4198. Shep put himself through the ringer for you lot in that epic scrumathon against the tahs. Pretty sure the others would have done worse, but whatever the case the bloke has been much better than terrible.

    QLD Premier Rugby 2011

Dave McDuling has carried his strong reds B form on into the club season - best of the forwards against Gold Coast and good again yesterday against the filth. Big, athletic, aggressive, great ball carry, good hands - he can't be too far off a super contract.

The Ongoing Tragedy of the Waratahs

Just thinking about the lack of excellent 10s... I'm not sure if this is right, but it feels like there is an incessant drive at the tahs to unearth the next big thing that seems to undermine player development. School boy geniuses signed as 18 year olds and thrust into the limelight of super...

    Reds 2011

This might sound like a big call, but James Hanson is excellent. I've seen him go head to head with Saia a couple of times in club footy and he played all over him. He also was Unis best player most weeks. Super 15 is not the Hospital Cup but the signs are very good.

Why aren't the Wallabies playing (and winning) like the Crusaders?

Nice post Newter. I think most of the responses here identify very significant contributing factors, which taken together distinguish the Wallabies from the Deans coached Crusaders. But I think there might be another way to look at this. It might be the case that the very attempt to...
