Waratahs 2025

Crashy

Nicholas Shehadie (39)
You could tell JAS was crocked the moment he hobbled off on game 1 in front of where we were sitting. He and the coaches sprouted some bullshit about cramps - but you could tell straight away it wasn't.

I like how an injury keeps a player out for a minimum of a month isnt classed as serious..

Classic Tahs.

I think there are accentuating circumstances here. 1) if he wasn't on the contract he's on, and/or 2) it wasn't his first year of rugby, and/or 3) there wasn't a Lions tour this year, and/or 4) it was any other Waratahs centre or outside back, he'd probably strapped up and playing.

After seeing the Tahs team for this weekend I'm wondering what supporters think the best 2nd row combo is?

Starting the year I would have thought FLW (Fergus Lee-Warner) and Miles... not so sure on Miles now tbh. I don't know much about Leafi or Felix. Sinclair is a honest toiler but not on the same level as say Smith from the Reds.

Like wise people's thoughts on the centres? I like Foketi and has proven he's got a high ceiling however doesn't seem to be able to string games together near that. O'Donnell looks like he could be quality. JAS obviously an option at 13(perhaps best for Wobs). Walton not really firing any shots.

For me I like the idea of O'Donnell and Foketi there or either of them at 12 with JAS at 13 which opens up 15 for Jorgo, which is where it think he should be developing his game is JAS is to be in the front line for Wobs.

Yes I'm aware of injuries, more of a question for when they're all fit for people with their finger more on the pulse with the Tahs than me.

Agree, would like to see JAS have a run in the centres. Hopefully gets that opportunity soon.

As for the centres, we dont really have many options. Miles really hasnt set the world on fire in the first two rounds, and hopefully he can get the stupid stuff under control. He is still young, hopefully the investment pays off.

O'Donnell can be a long term Centre for the Tahs and is the prime age to settle into it. Jackson Ropata is the other exciting one in the squad who is similar to Perese but probably more Rugby skill over raw power. I'd like to see those 2 push ahead of Walton this year and pressure Foketi to either step up or make way. Good depth though when JAS is likely to get some time in the spot but is also a good 15 option with Kellaway not looking completely settled yet but it's a new team and he's a smart player who will figure it out.

9 is going to be the question mark for the side. Schmidt clearly likes Gordon and his form was good for the Wallabies but so so for the Tahs. He's 31 and likely to chase a cheque soon enough and I don't blame him. Jack Grant is steady but also 31 so lets not pin our hopes on it. Wilson needs a good stint of minutes to be ready to take up the job. At 22 he's still young and probably coming into his best footy in the next couple of years

If Louis Wrechon plays 3rd fiddle again this year for the Reds, would expect him to look elsewhere for opportunity

He looks like a very good player. Force are the other that will soon enough be after a 9. White is 34 and IFL at 29 is a bit of an unknown if he'll take off soon. Henry Robertson is there and 25 but he's a genuine 3rd string pro halfback.

I think Wilson is the Tahs man of the future but there are a number of very good 9s coming through the systems.

I wouldn't be surprised if you end up with Leota/Sinclair in the row then Adamson or Leafi in the backrow with Gamble & Gleeson.

Think Kalapu is more likely than Leota. Also have Kunavula who could slot in there and potentially play a bit like Uru when he goes into the Row. Not saying he's the same standard but that attack first style player.

I think we need to move on from this hybrid 6/2nd rower stuff. Leota is a 6, Sinclair is a workhorse but lacks height and weight. The tahs scrum has lacked weight and power for years. We need more genuine 6,5 120kg bodies. Unfortunately, they all play in the ruck for Collingwood etc

I’d heard Edmed had been crook and hence Creighton was given a starting role but McKellar has come out and said he’d dropped Edmed to the bench.
