Do they need a certain amount watching games to make list? I don't see Pumas tests on there.
I being honest, I not really sure how they work these lists.

I really want to know how many people watched 80% of the game or more? Always feels like a Uni assignment where you grab the stats that back your point. You watch 5 mins of the game and then leave does it still count in it's reach?

Reach is the number of people who have watched at least one minute of the broadcast.

The main rating is the average audience each minute.

I know that this is Broadcast options For Australia rugby etc, but regardless was pleasantly surprised to see that the first Bledisloe was the most watched Rugby match in NZ since the 2023 WC final. 963 ,000 on sky and 453.000 on Sky digital. That's pretty impressive almost 1.5 mill out of 5.4 mill is over 1 in 4 in the country. I genuinely thought the only reason to have it that early was for crowd at game, but seems TV audience might like it too. Not sure how it they get numbers, first Bok test was most 'engaged'or watched whole game etc, 886,000 tv and 480,000 digital.

So reach means fuck all except for someone to chuck a big number on a presentation and hope it impresses.

Reckon after SA pumped the ABs in Game 2 people might watch with a bit more interest that the Wallabies may have had their best chance to win one. When results are assumed people drop off.

So reach is really a number you don't want?
ie so over 2 mill people watched a bit of AFL final and didn't watch it all?
And first Bled 600,000 watched a bit and same as above? Is it lack of actual interest, or just a lot with no concentration level?

Few schooners or has he been given the flick from the team?

I don't mind the group as a whole except for SBW is awful but feels a forced play mate. Turinui is also sounded very jaded recently and needs to step back a bit regardless of people screaming bUt HeS RiGHt. Harrison also offers nothing except superlatives and bs.

The relatively new faces like Naiqama and Hooper a gems in coverage.
Turinui has gone full 180 lol. I remember a few seasons back thinking he was too much of an apologist/pacifist - almost was too scared to say anything that might be remotely deemed patriotic towards Australia. Annoyed the HELL out of me.

Now he's gone full tard (Tropic Thunder reference for those who may not know). I prefer that tbh but I can see how it might grate some, particularly non-Australian viewers lol.

I'm generally fine with all of them except for Harrison. His work on Inside Line is beyond a joke. He comes across like a first-year management consultant trying to impress high school kids at a party. How can someone put so much corporate yoga babble and buzz words into a sentence? On a rugby show?!?!?

I suspect he did an MBA or some sort of Executive management course recently - but in an effort to sound clever, he sounds nonsensical. The show would be half as long and cover twice as much if he wasn't involved.

The guy I'd like to see back is Mat Rogers, but I reckon he removed himself before eventually tearing into Harrison. I distinctly remember one night Rogers was trying to make a well founded and valid point and Harrison kept jumping in babbling on about value creation and macro lens blah blah. Rogers was at wits end and you could tell he was barely restraining himself. Hasn't been seen since.

I'd bring Rogers back and tell Harrison to go find a boardroom to bore people in.

The AFL would be thrilled with reach of 6m+ and RA would too for a reach of 1.7m

I'd imagine what we are seeing here is a lot of channel hopping (ie it's half time in the AFL, I wonder what's happening in the rugby)

If 1.6m watch a quarter of the broadcast, and 400k watch it all, then you get an average of 800k

Yep this is my main issue with Harrison too. The PR spin talk is infuriating, but he genuinely stifles good conversation too. Constantly cutting others off, or getting weirdly spiky, just when some really good discussions are beginning to take off.

The two day rock up and get a picture in front of the Harvard sign and list Harvard Grad on everything.

It just all sounds like a real estate blurb when Harrison talks. Lotta sauce, no pie.

He's actually not bad at talking about scrums and lineout which is a massive plus on just about every other commentator, including one former Wallaby hooker.

But the rest is unbearable

Suspect the SA game may have had more had it not been competing with the Warriors semi?

Yes! The management consultant gobbledygook is one thing, but it's the cutting off and talking over people that is really jarring. And such a sanctimonious plum too (can confirm his tv persona is similar to his real-life persona in this regard having met him several times).

I dunno about how insightful I find Harrison comments considering both the scrum and lineout are vastly different from when he played.

I wish they could rope in more blokes that are sub 10 years post retirement rather than guys who have been retired longer than their careers went for.

Liam Wright looks like he transfer there if things don’t go well with his shoulder. He speaks well and I enjoy his insights.

Anyone else across the apparent pending demise of The Roar...

Losing its Roar

There have been some pretty wild machinations going on in the background of one of Australia’s top read sports websites, The Roar this year, before its editor Tony Harper informed readers this week the site is going dark.

There has been a sale process rolling on in the background for several months, with Roar owner PlayUp and The Sporting News in discussions which appear to have fallen over, while in August, there was a now-deleted article claiming the site had been sold to cosmetic surgery entrepreneur Daniel Corsello for $1.

“Due to issues beyond the control of our editorial team, we are unable to publish content to the site until further notice,” Harper wrote this week.
News is a hard game in 2025. We hope The Roar can find a way to return to publishing soon.

Just a reminder that everyone who puts time in at GAGR does so for free. The guys who do the news on the front page and moderate on here get nothing but a good feeling inside.

This place survives on advertising revenue so thank you for clicking guys.
