Just watched the replay, Canada were super impressive. Their 9 is brilliant. Could be an epic final if they can play as well against England (assuming the Red Roses beat France tonight).
They did but they're going to have to be a whole lot better to beat Canada.

I see that Canada are still amateurs, why are they so successful? It's quite an aberration compared to the men's.

they are not really amatuers. I think its more they don't have a professional club competiton? Heaps of their players play in the UK.

They have a strong link between 7s and 15s - something I reckon will happen soon enough over here.

They have a very strong university program too apparently.

Mens and Womens university sport program need to have the same amount of funding in Canada, however there are a lot less sports for women being offered. Thus Womens university rugby is getting more funding.

2026 Super Rugby Aupiki & Farah Palmer Cup have been brought forward* to allow for WXV in September & October. BF will play 10 Tests incl Pac4 & Laurie O'Reilly Cup per normal.

Edit: NZ Hurld report says Aupiki pushed back.

Good to see the SRW Champions fixture retained, hopefully more TT content to follow sooner rather than later.

Allan Bunting has inevitably been let go by NZR...

Had to happen but NZR didn't set up the program of matches (or domestic comps) necessary to make them competitive with the likes of Canada, France & esp England.

New Zealand played to their potential. They were NEVER going to win playing in the northern hemisphere!

Like Australia, they have refused to fully professionalise, and paid the price. In order to cover up their own deficiencies they got rid of the coach. Yeah, that'll fix it.

They only "played to their potential" bc the game plan was rubbish.

NZR's other big move wrt the women's game lately has been to cut Taranaki from Farah Palmer Cup & revert to the Premiership/ Championship model with no promotion/ relegation until 2028. All done & dusted in six weeks

As NRLW expands in terms of teams & salary cap I ecpect to see a lot more defections.
