Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I know people that forgot it was on and then thought oh well because they are out and doing things but the ratings would have much worse had they gone head to head with the NRL.

Day footy rules though. Something about the Wallaby jersey now being back to the proper Gold in the sun just looks right.

The planning for the Townsville game, with all the Wallabies tests for 2025, probably happened 12 months ago, and maybe reflects the thinking of RA at that time - Wallabies still struggling for interest, not great to watch, best not to put them up against the Saturday night games of the NRL and AFL in their final round. As it turns out, quite a different view on the Wallabies now, and they would have competed well against a dull NRL game between the Bulldogs and the Sharks. And probably something in the AFL, I dunno.

I think it'd be a mess only because once people have something on they leave it unless your'e a rusted on fan who wants to go look for the Wallabies game.

Ruby probably got more good from winning that game late being a standalone if a few 1000 non Rugby watchers turned it on because nothing else was on.

The Wallabies’ increased success under Joe Schmidt, which began in earnest with a famous win over England at Twickenham last year, has not only driven fans to buy tickets to games but also to consume broadcast content at record levels.

The drought-breaking win by the Wallabies over the Boks at Ellis Park was so popular that the mini-match replay became the most-watched “VOD” (video on demand) asset of all time on Stan Sport. The previous record was held by the Wallabies-England mini-match last year, when Joseph-Aukuso Sua'ali'i debuted and Max Jorgensen scored the match-winner.

Wallabies merchandise was sold out in Townsville on Saturday, and kids were doing impromptu lineouts in the streets after the game.

thats pretty poor they didnt stock enough merch. the game needs every single dollar it can get..

This is a pretty unwinnable argument. Due to the nature of the game with ever changing sponsors and merch manufacturers I’m sure most outlets stock a bit less than usual.

And if they stocked too much and didn’t sell it, they’ve be accused of being wasteful when the jersey design inevitably changes and they need to throw it out or discount it heavily.

317k is pretty good, especially for an Argie game. Fair bit higher than both SA games last year as an example.
Ratings on FTA are just disappearing. AFL arvo finals only did 649,000, and the NRL game was only at 491,000

We also have no idea how many are watching on Stan

True. And re: Stan, there are nuffies like me who watched live on Stan, watched the highlights package that evening, then watched the full replay again the following day.

I hate daytime rugby broadcasts, the jersey may look good, but the broadcasts are terrible when the ball is going from dark to light.
