Sydney Subbies 2025

Another day of rain
Another day forecast for tomorrow
Another day of clubs hoping they’ll find a ground to play on for Saturday.
Another day of Subbies hoping if they don’t look out the window they can pretend like nothings happening and blame the clubs when they don’t make up their games in time.

Where are the Division 5 semi finals being played? It’s three sleeps away…. And still no location.
Has there been a ground set and then the rain has washed it out?
Why aren’t Subbies saying that this week is postponed and allowing everyone to have that breathing space?

I joke about blowing up at Subbies if they call it off early and the sun comes out. But in all seriousness would anyone really be upset if Subbies made an early definite decision allowing clubs to plan for the upcoming change rather than 7am Saturday morning?

In a year where we have postponed rounds for the Lions series we are now rushing to do our finals asap when we have space to work around this weather event.

Someone will get on somewhere in Sydney this weekend. I’m sure Subbies has a plan for the finals. But what about all the other games that don’t go ahead? How are those clubs meant to catch them up before the other divisions finals start next week. Is it fair in those clubs to just have their games ruled NA?

Porters looks playable in case needed.

Assume the synthetics in Sydney will be getting full use this weekend with Irish and Briars moving to Latham, I imagine UNSW and Forest will be working hard to get on the mungo pitch at Maroubra again.

Wet weather round truly living up to its name.

Guess it depends whether Randwick/Shute Shield will need Latham Park to get their finals on.

But even then, that's 2 match ups that might get on and 10+ club match ups without a ground to play on... Don't think it's from a lack of trying that these 10+ games can't get on either.

Junior parents in local clubs across sports are enquiring about getting their money back.

Councils aren't in the habit of refunding ground hire fees so not sure that can happen.
I hope this isn’t the case but I wonder if given the recent weather and all the closures that we see more councils going down the synthetic root? If people are asking for there money back councils will be looking at their best options to get clubs on the field as often as possible.
I’m not really familiar with the maintenance of these fields after there installed but you’d have to think it would be less up keep costs for a council?

Councils cop a lot of flack because Karen wants somewhere to take Mr. Sprinkles to do his twozies! And Karen has lots of time on her hands to write curtly worded letters to said council... frequently!

There can be quite a bit of pushback on the environmental front from locals as @DaSchmooze says above - one of the many reasons Eastwood faced headwinds moving to Castle Hill was green concerns over the runoff from artificial turf "rubble" or infill.

The proper maintenance of artificial turf is a lower cost than standard grass overall. However, if it isn't kept correctly, the little rubber infill bits that keep it soft enough to run on and allow people to slide rather than stick move around. Once this happens you're in serious burns territory with a side dose of staph.

Dog piss friendly it is not.

Another day passes and no news. Div 5 and JJC Yellow with finals less than 48 hours away but no time or venue. Mass field closures across Sydney extending into next week. Clubs left to guess what's next.
The question has to be when does rescheduling a final game become too late?
Personally I think rescheduling any game the morning of is too much. I know it’s in the rules but expecting clubs to relocate across Sydney in a couple of hours is ridiculous.

That’s not to mention the clubs currently preparing for home games buying supplies etc cause there may be a chance their ground may open late Friday but it’s likely to be a waste.
