Sexton was also was one of the Worlds best 10's, whereas O'Connor has never proven to be a Test level 10, and his last performance for the Wallabies there made Dave Rennie banish him from the squad instantly

I hope he goes well but we cant compare him to guys like Sexton
He was Rennie's scapegoat for that test. It was an abomination for all involved.
His cannot be hung for that performance alone.

Good analysis as always. Nothing revolutionary. Playing to strengths and adding a few elements. But a lot of work on skills behind the scenes which he doesn't mention. I like how he picks up how they seem to set up plays. Squidge has proper rugby IQ.

Also a good dose of luck with insane depth never seen before in SA. A few years back the Boks did not early have the options they do now. Under Alistair Coetzee the cupboard was really bare (made worse with awful selection).

Sums it up: "It is about getting their strengths more into play."

True, but he was hardly playing the house down before it

Just think we need to stop pretending like he was ever a world class 10

This is true. Never got to his level at flyhalf. But then sexton never got to JOCs level at centre, wing and fullback. So who really gives a fuck. Hope he steps up. It’s probably one of the last opportunities he’ll get to wear the gold jersey so hope he has a blinder!

Late SA change.

Like for like Boan Venter for Jan Hendrick Wessels on the bench
Not quite like for like. Totally different players. JH Wessels is very athletic for a prop. Brings a lot more skills than Venter, who is a very proppy prop.

He would be 5th in the depth chart at LH pro for SA.

Joe has said he may change the team after captains run. Assume he had a media deadline to hit and as Donaldsons injury happened late he just put it in.

hes having scans and I guess they’ll see. But if he isn’t cleared I wouldn’t be surprised if Edmed comes onto the bench for Gleeson or Nick CdC.

ahem.

Is anyone arguing he was one?
never saw that on my end. He was always a centre to me once he developed up a bit.
Of the amigos I think Kurtley was the missed opp at 10.
