Lions Tour 2025

The Phoenix

Paddington, Surry Hills will all be rammed I reckon. Especially with all the Lions fans. Good chance places like Circular Quay and the Rocks could be busy as people will jump on the light rail up to Moore park or get on the dedicated trains to Olympic Park from Central.
Depends which stadium he's talking about - no good getting the tram up to Moore Park for the Test match.

Did not realise it was all so close. 9 Days till the Argentina test. Our biggest advantage is how little time they have had together. Half their starting team are playing this weekend either for Leicester, Leinster or Bath. No chance they've spent much time learning to play together.

I’m going to both the Brisbane Test and the Sydney Test (also going to Tahs vs Lions too, man I’ve dropped some coin!). Recently moved to Sydney so still learning the ropes - for the locals, what’s a good game plan for dinner/drinks beforehand then rolling into the game? Any areas that are good and make sense from a public transport perspective? I’ve never been to the stadium.

For the Tahs game, you can't go wrong around the Paddington/Surry Hills/Entertainment Quarter precinct.

Just pick a pub and get there early. If you can make a booking, even better. Afterwards will presumably be a bit of a lottery. Everything should be heaving with a standard Saturday night crowd plus a lot of Lions fans kicking on.

For the test match at Olympic Park there will almost certainly be pop up venues out there with beer and food options. Personally, I will probably pick a venue near Central for the afternoon for beers and an early dinner then jump on a train figuring I won't have a lot of time out at Olympic Park before the game starts.

Afterwards is tricky. The trains will be rammed for a while but likewise, the drinking options aren't amazing at Olympic Park. Depending on my state of inebriation and desire for celebration etc. my plan would probably be to try and grab a couple of beers after the game somewhere at Olympic Park and then catch the train when things calm down a little bit.

Au NZ jersey is an 89 throwback and it's pretty good:

I'm hoping the release a cotton supporters jersey but I'm not holding my breath.

Idk about that one. Is a throwback really necessary if the design could be improved? The gold and white dominates the jersey.

Feel like a stripes or quins set up would be better with the four main colours. I hope they don’t do the thing where the socks are the home country’s because that just defeats the purpose of the ANZAC tribute.

I like it because it's a throw back and it's a good design. I think it's worth noting the lower black block rolls into black shorts in a really effective way that creates a pretty good balance between the two country's colours, and a very slick effect for the whole kit.

Personally I don't mind if they do home country socks for the payers, but my preference there would be either black and gold stripes or a left right AU/NZ pair.

Big thanks everyone, all of the advice is super helpful!

Good to see they finally released a jersey, now just need to announce a player!

Because I'm pedantically organised I went and booked a table at the Posty before the MCG test, which is wildly ambitious given the Lions fans will probably be camped there from 11am onwards.

Posted on Monday but appears to have fallen into one of the gaps in G&GR's availability.

RMo unavailable for AU/NZ with a broken hand which didn't stop him playing the J-League GF so either he needs surgery or his Club (or their insurer) has nixed it.

Also posted on Monday that the AU/NZ match is a week prior to Maori AB v Scotland so I can't see any fringe AB of Maori descent being released which really just leaves those of Pakeha, 'nesiaan and/ or mixed heritage e.g. Papali'i, Havili, Iose if not required for AB 36.

@zer0 may now want to re-summon his primary to 4th Form French to describe what he'll do should Papali'i not make the 36 which also fell victim to yesterday's interruption of service. It was a doozy so I hope he does.

Alas, mon ami, it appears my perfect Francais has been censured by these rosbif des antipodes, pig-dogs.

Ce n’est pas un problème. The postings Français shall continue.

Closest pub probably still available is the Rising Sun. They look after the local Quins lads, so I might park there.
