Sydney Subbies 2025

Irish vs Forrest Dark Green on Dark Green. Real delight to watch especially at Latham with the sun right in line of the camera.

Maybe Subbies could buy some different coloured jerseys (pink?) and rent them out to clubs who have clashes each week? Make a bit of money and get round these ridiculous clashes.

There's a set of Subbies rep jerseys available to any club that wants them. Light blue.

Redfield wore them playing against Easts 5th Grade (posing as Sydney Harbour 2s) in the Grose Cup final of 2022 due to the clay of colours

Controversial opinion incoming… I don’t mind the break up of the 2nd half of the year.
Ideally would have avoided having the last round on its own that could see clubs at the bottom not show back up. Plus the lack of room for Wet Weather catch ups.
But the 3 weeks on 1 week off is a good mix and allow guys to plan things around footy.
Maybe next year the week offs could be Wet Weathers and only used if needed?

I'm told that's how park footy works in parts of Ireland and it makes things easier in terms of grounds and injury management.
So Pfitzy, the 2026 season looks like this (for Divisions 2-6):
Round 1: April 11
Round 2: April 18
April Bye: April 25 (ANZAC Day)
Round 3: May 2
Round 4: May 9
May Bye: May 16 (Wet Weather)
Round 5: May 23
Round 6: May 30
June Bye: June 6 (Kings Birthday)
Round 7: June 13
Round 8: June 20
Round 9: June 27
July Bye: July 4 (Wet Weather)
Round 10: July 11

Round 12: July 25
August Bye: August 1
Round 13: August 8
Round 14: August 15

Grand Finals: September 5

Then Div 1 get:
Round 1: April 18
April Bye: April 25 (ANZAC Day)
Round 2: May 2
Round 3: May 9
May Bye: May 16 (Wet Weather)
Round 4: May 23
Round 5: May 30
June Bye: June 6 (Kings Birthday)
Round 6: June 13
Round 7: June 20
Round 8: June 27

Without the ANZAC day clash in Div 1 in 2027 the structure of 3 weeks on and 1 off works well and breaks up the season into chunks (3x3x3x3x2).
Not quite as well for the lower divisions as you would end up with (4x3x3x4). Still breaks up the middle part of the year and covers wet weather catch ups.
A 6 team division in the lower grades would end up playing (4x3x3x3x2).

Division 5 Tips

Harlequins
v Maccabi - going with the home side in front of what should be a raucous Ladies Day crowd. It'll be a good game tho!

Hawkesbury Valley v Epping - home side again. Epping will put up a heck of a fight but think the home side have a bit of cohesion that see them get up.

Canterbury v Renegades - injuries and absences will curtail us to a degree. Hoping there is enough juice left to take a win into the long weekend.

Raptors v Redfield - the undefeated run to continue in what will be a clash of styles. Raptors at home will be interesting to see after a week off. As always, the disclaimer is who shows up for Raptors ;)

At least the weather's good and rugby can be the winner.

My tips for Div 3 for this week
  • Blacktown vs Beecroft – the boys from Headen to prevail in 1’s & 2’s and Barker in Colts
  • LC Old Iggies vs Knox – Knox too strong across all grades
  • Hornsby vs Hills – Hills in 1’s & 2’s & Hornsby in Colts.

Div 1

HH
– Newport. A tough outing here for Newport coming up against the competition favourites. HH continue to get stronger year on year. Newport will stick with them in the first half but will end up down by 20.

Drummoyne – Colleagues. Colleagues will continue to get better throughout the year and already look to be now a top 4 side after a poor first round. Drummoyne missing key personnel wont be able to keep up. Colleagues by 20

Blue Mountains – Mosman. Going with the home team here without much conviction. This game could go either way with both squads brimming with Shute shield experience. Mosman will be clinical, Blue Mountains will be dynamic. Could come down to some individual brilliance in the last 10 minutes. Blueys by 2

Lindfield – Waverley. Lindfield dodged a Colleagues bullet last week and get a home game against a good Waverley outfit. Both sides match up well across the park. Lindfield to win at home on a poorly prepared ground. Lindfield by 3

Div 2
Petersham
– Sydney Irish. Petersham to be too strong here. Petersham are on another oval that doesn’t recover from rain well, so could be a minefield in the middle of the ground, however wont impact Petershams ability to strip Irish in the backs. Shammies by 7

Forest – St Patricks. The battle of the fallen giants. Both sides on track for a Div 3 relegation based on their performances and current personnel. This game will go along way to deciding who remains up. Forest 1-0 in the current basement battle. I feel they should win again at home. Forest by 6

UNSW – Briars. UNSW on a roll. That wont change this week. Briars improving but wont disturb the UNSW squad on their way to Div 1. UNSW by 12

Div 3

Blacktown - Beecroft. Good Physical game for the first 20 minutes. Beecroft to rack up 60 after this.

LCOI – Knox. LCOI improving each week, however Knox will widen the gap between the top 3 and bottom 3 in this comp. Knox to pull away in the last 15 minutes to win by 20

Hornsby – Hills. Hills on a losing streak, which generally happens when they start seeing some injuries to their top 15 without any depth in the club. Hornsby haven’t been able to step up this year and don’t see them doing it this week. Hills back on the bandwagon by 12

Div 4

St Ives –
Mac Uni – CrusherMorant might score some tries this week. Mac Uni wont make the year. St Ives by 50

Kings – Balmain – Great game this, Kings on the way up, Balmain still strong in this division. Look to a strong game for both wingers. Kings by 12

Wakehurst – Chatswood. This comp is Wakehursts to lose. They should win this by 15+. Chatswood are a good team but wont stick with them

Div 5
As per Pfitzys tips.
