Is any club having a better year than Redfield this year? 10 wins across 2 grades for 10
Bonus points. Guess we will see the true reflection on there season next week when they play Valley whose undefeated in 1s.

I know it’s harder in the higher grades with more teams etc. But impressive start by Redfield.

As usual, their fitness and cohesion is outstanding. A lot of those guys have played a lot of minutes together, and they appear to have a few back from Eastwood as well to help boost stocks.

Their 2nd Grade are mostly young blokes - many Colts age - who will come through into a good system. Again: the fitness and skill can overcome bigger bodies.

The next 2 weeks will be intersting as they host Valley and are away to Raptors.

The forecast rain probably means next week will be moved away from the College, if it goes ahead at all.

Hopefully we'll continue to see clubs building after the covid shock - like Kings who start pushing into Div 2 again - which needs a serious rebuild.

Anyone seen video of who it was? NSWRugby.tv not working for me for some reason
Just had a quick Look, About 15 mins into the game The Convicts player is tackled in a normal tackle about 5-10m out from the sideline. He goes to ground then rolls out of the tackle holding his knee. He ends up just over the sideline off the field whilst ref stops play. The game never restarts as the medics check out the player.
Looked like the game could have continued even if he did need an ambulance but best that caution was taken. Hope he is ok

We had a similar situation a couple of years ago - a player did just about every soft tissue in his knee on a wet day and was basically lying on the sideline for the entire 1sts game.

A lot of clubs won't move players with serious injury anymore for liability purposes - anything more severe than a sprain or a tear, we tend to call ambos and let them handle it.

Just saw it and that was also my opinion. Could easily have moved him via stretcher?

Take the point made by Here To Do above tho: sometimes it isn't worth the risk. What has society become?

You used to pop shoulders back in on the spot as well - the problem is there are risks with everything medical and while some of them are just unavoidable, there are plenty of other cases where it's no longer necessary to take them.

If a bloke's hurt, he's hurt. If you can't move him safely, don't move him at all, the same thing we say to tacklers.

We know a lot more about risk these days because we've seen what happens when they don't pay off or they go completely wrong.

Very accurate predication PFE2, Beecroft 29 - Hills 19. Game was a very stop start affair. Punishing & torrid affair between both packs. Beecroft back line a class above in attack & defence!
Looked like a good game of footy. 10 points not a huge margin at Headen, Beecroft remain the front runners but Hills playing them close away and Knox pipping Hills last week looks like it's a bit closer than it seemed two weeks ago.

LCOI dismantled Blacktown on the road to notch their first win of the season, congrats to the JV on a solid performance. Not sure if Blacktown asked to move up or were voluntold, but they've found it very tough sledding through a few weeks.

Hornsby and Knox rained out, Waitara Oval is in pretty good nick so that one surprised me.

Blacktown wanted 2 Grades, and came into Div 3 as it was the spot available.

Potentially could have been Division 5 instead of Maccabi/Convicts if Blacktown had come to Subbies early in March with the promise of 2 teams. Maybe.

Div 5 Wild Predictions

After 5 rounds there have been a few things shape up fairly early and fairly obviously. Still a lot of unknowns as well.

McClean Cup
Lock in Valley and Redfield for top 2. Both undefeated through 5 rounds, this weekend might be a very interesting look at who could emerge as minor premiers. Both have high levels of cohesion and organisation in their top rank of players.
Next down we'll see a fight for the last 2 spots from Raptors, Renegades, Harlequins, and Epping. I'm not counting out Maccabi 100% but they might not have the depth to play the whole 80 minutes against these opponents. Canterbury have shown some fight,
I'll back Renegades and Raptors to make up the finalists, with Quins and Epping will run it close if they can keep their best squads together.
Top 4 in order: Valley, Redfield, Raptors, Renegades

Grose Cup
One lock-in prediction: Canterbury 2s to rocket up the rankings as they get more time together.
It'll be hard or them to catch Redfield, so I'll put them 2nd.
It'll be a logjam for third and fourth. Many more variables here with injuries etc.
The only team I'm not looking at for a spot would be Epping, who have a mountain to climb with 0 points from 5 rounds.
Renegades are in the elimination zone as well after we failed to finish off games against Redfield and Valley, despite scoring some good tries - the next couple of weeks need to be much better.
Top 4 in order: Redfield, Canterbury, Raptors, Valley

I hope I'm wrong but seems like we are in for a repeat of 2024 with the weather. Forecast for his week is dire and on the back of rain last week can see Council's getting on the front foot and closing grounds. There is already a decent list of matches set down for double points later in the year. Also challenging for the clubs who lose a home game and the revenue associated. Hard for clubs to keep players engaged too with limited training and match time :(

McClean Cup - Raptors may do well if they get more players to fill 2nd grade, or, dare I say it, forfeit Grose Cup.

Agreed - they had 23 when we faced them, and the quality showed in second grade, but they got finished over the top of in First as fatigue set in and discipline eroded.

Given they've already started playing, they'd have to forfeit 1s as that's the highest grade - Epping last year was an edge case, the manual says you forfeit your highest grade on each day if I'm not mistaken

Not as such.

IF you forfeit a given grade, all grades below it are considered forfeits for that day for your club - even if you won. The score will be recorded as 28-0 to the opposition unless the score differential was higher.

Colts are excepted.

Raptors could forfeit 2nd Grade on any given day and it wouldn't affect their First Grade. They could withdraw from the 2nd Grade comp as well, however I think given they had numbers on Saturday, they will most likely tough out the hard weeks and take the wins where they can

Right you are - not sure if that has been changed since I last read it or if I just misunderstood it when I first saw it. Play on

It’s an interesting scenario as they get closer to finals. A couple of losses in 1s whilst
Picking up wins in 2s may mean they want to qualify guys for 2s come finals but tough to do with only 23-25 guys available each week. Could get to finals time with not enough qualified for 2s…

Happened to Rockdale the year they were back. Many phone calls and discussions. They ended up with 15 + 2 props on the bench, basically.
