Wallabies 2025

Leota isn't in the mix for me. It may be McKellar and his questionable systems but he has been nowhere near form this year, and is second to thor for his report card on effort.

I'd be backing gleeson's inclusion over leota.
No doubt. Gleeson is a must inclusion, playing the form of his life.

If it were tomorrow, It's:
4. Williams 5. Salakaia-Loto
6. Valetini 7. McReight 8. Gleeson
19. Skelton 20. Wilson

with Wilson and Skelton coming on together at the 50th so the LO doesn't go to shit. If 6/2 whack Tizzano on the bench and tell McReight to go hell for leather for 50.

With the size of the pack the Lions will have, I don't want Frost anywhere near goal line defence.

Lineout would really struggle imo.
4. Williams 5. Frost
6. Valetini 7. McReight 8. Wilson
19. LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) 20. Hooper/Uru 21. Gleeson (if going for a 6/2)

A bit of versatility on the bench is what we need. If needed LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) should be able to cover blindside and Hooper should be able to cover 2nd row. How well they can do this another thing. While Gleeson pretty much does what Bobby and Wilson does. Can't play LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) and Skelton in the same team I feel. This also means we need to work out who are we trying to playing for 80mins. Can we expect the 2nd row to do this, I'm not sure but I think it would be good if either Williams or Frost could tough it out for the 80. Sorta depends on what happens during the game I guess.

I don't think Frost's aerial abilities make up for his other deficiencies. Lions will also be running a shorter backrow. Sub Skelton on for Salakaia-Loto if you're scared of playing them together.

Aerial ability? as in Re-starts or Lineouts? He's our tallest option so very needed in the lineout. For e-starts Williams is our guy. I am concerned with Frost at the contact zone but that's about it. I can see how pairing him with either LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) or Skelton would help there. If Skelton or LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) are on the bench you'd surely need Uru or Hooper there as well for that presence in lineout.

DC, He is a huge unit with a good skillset, BUT he doesn't have the aggression necessary, or the natural ability to play lock that Eales (ability) or Vickerman's aggression. Unless things change, he will be on the bench as a good finisher against the Lions.

I think he'll be included in the Aus/NZ game and probably the tahs game. He'll be in with a chance for the rest if he bosses it, but realistically he'll probably need an injury or two to open the door for him.
That bloke can mix it when he is fit. I reckon if he plays well in that Aus/NZ game he is a proper chance for a bench spot. Always though he was a huge loss when he buggered off.

Philip is like several of our locks, highly skilled, decent ticker but not big enough to make an impact at international level.

Tom Hooper had another great game...

His workrate is something, but I was really impressed by his running lines and generally just shifting his alignment to constantly gain metres.

I definitely think Schmidt will be relaxing his selection policy for the likes of him and Gleeson.
Hooper's discipline is starting to become a problem, he gives away some really stupid penalties. Missed a few tackles last week to. Carrying has been outstanding though as you say but the competition for those backrow spots is intense.

Exactly, Wilson, Valetini, Gleeson, Tizzano and McReight will definitely be there and if they take six, with him going overseas he’d be more likely to go with Uru or Nick CDC

I’m not sure where Hooper stands in the pecking order. I think it’s more likely his lack of involvement last year will work against him then his going OS.

The fact that Uru & Gleeson were involved last year and are also playing really well probably keeps them ahead.

Has Tom Wright gone into a shell? He seems to have gone from the guy who would rather run than pass, now he seems to have gone to rather pass than run. He needs to find some of his old self without going full out, 'give it to me and I'll score'.

It’ll just depend on what an our lineout will look like. Gleeson offers line denting but not much in the lineout. Uru and Hooper very helpful there.

Tonight’s Force v Brumbies game proved my point re: Frost.

Champion de Crispgney, who’s no more damaging than Earl, Pollock etc, used Nick Frost as a road bump.

later in the game, our best ball carrier Valetini, got sat down by Williams. We need our tight 5 to be able to hold their own.
I agree with you. it is the tight 5 that will be giving Schmidt the most concern, re who plays, who finishes and who doesn't.
