Makes sense for Schmidt to stick it out until the end of Super while they're transitioning - there's no travel burden or requirement for significant hands on work during that part of the season so it doesn't conflict with his family commitments. Great opportunity for a manged transition too.

I feel like we've missed out on ten pages of outrage with this seemingly well managed succession plan...

Yep - while it's been a bit of a shit show to get here, this is honestly a pretty damn fantastic spot to be.

Mr Waugh and Herbert seem to be doing not too badly at this whole 'running the show' thing...

Not a bad outcome to be honest.

Gives Les and QR the time to sort out a succession plan and enact it with Les still there next year. Also means Les will presumably get a full "off-season" with the Wallabies squad rather than coming in with limited preparation.

I mean... Les could just be a flop?

To be fair, if the Reds don't meet expectations over the next two seasons then I anticipate this thread will be bombarded with those questioning the decision to hire him instead of (insert candidate here)...

And those who complained that the process has been "drawn out," will shift to say it was actually "rushed."

Good times...

Don't forget the coverage Ballymore's carpark will receive!

Schmidt just seen driving out of RA headquarters in his new Ferarri.

All jokes aside, Schmidt has set himself up pretty well here. Even if the Wallabies get pumped 100 nil in every test match from now, he knows he's got a contract until mid-2026 and as the Wallabies preferred coach from the start of the process, I am sure he's on a very good wicket after extending his terms twice at the request of RA.

Well played Joe, well played indeed.

To be fair, if Les doesn't do something to demonstrate ability there would be reason to question moving him to international HC. Have said this all along.

I am VERY pleased with this outcome, both for the Wallabies and for the Reds. And I look forward to watching Les get (more) runs on the board.

As much as I hate the phrase, this seems to be a Win Win...

Continuity for the Wallabies and the Reds, with time to work out the best assistant coaches for the Wallabies and the new Reds coach for 2027.

Quite refreshing after all the coach selection process debacles since Link walked away
