Doesn't matter, but it will be interesting when Rugby League and Basketball continue to gain in popularity in NZ. Might suddenly see from our pov.
I didn't know that basketball and league played ANZAC tests. I thought NZRL wanted and ARL said no, but I don't follow those sports, so maybe they do.

Yep mate, but I think if it all added up financially it would have been on. But from what I read it was always to be played in Aus, and I think extra tests overseas in USA are pretty attractive these days, with sponsors etc. As I said apart from in here, I hadn't heard about the super weekend though.
5mil attractive?

Maybe RA should organise to play a state of origin match on ANZAC day instead. Or a Wallabies vs Barbarians/All Stars. Tell NZR we'll need a couple of half rounds for super rugby regardless of their position on the ANZAC Bledisloe.

International rugby is the pinnacle for rugby, not state or super rugby.

NRL and State Of Origin are the pinnacles for the league; international rugby league is an afterthought.

That's why the NRL aren't going to play an international test on ANZAC Day; they are guaranteed better ratings and crowds through NRL matches.

I agree, and an ANZAC Bledisloe would be by far the biggest annual event possible. But if NZ aren't coming to the party immediately, then creating a precedent of a special event/match on ANZAC day is still possible, and may make it more likely for NZ to change their tune in future. Especially as there'd be a necessity for the 2 weekends before and after (or including) ANZAC day to be half rounds anyway.

Interesting to hear the chat about an ANZAC bledisloe on the breakdown (NZ Rugby talk show), they were really excited by the idea and across the board very critical of NZR's decision to put it in the too hard basket. Seems like there's plenty of appetite over there for it too, hopefully it keeps it on the table.

Interesting they quoted Tin Horan on it, and obviously hadn't read that the tests were all in Aus, as they talked about having it at Christchurch etc.
I will be interested to hear what they think of the idea of holding the WC in the Gulf States, as it looks like they are suggesting big money to WR (World Rugby) for that. I like ANZAC test not keen on taking WC to Gulf States like soccer did. I know I will get called out for that too, but it's not something I would be comfortable with either.
But I thought kiwis weren't into it ;)
If you quoting me, I said it's just not a thing here (in NZ) in general, not everyone against it.

Interesting read, lamenting the loss of sport in public schools. Its not just a rugby a problem. A lot of high schools have just axed inter school sports.

This commment is a really good point and highlights how shit a 'partner' NZRU are:

The Australians are understandably miffed that they have bent the knee to their Sanzaar partners to allow them to undertake huge money-spinning tours of each other, effectively torpedoing the Rugby Championship once every four years. But where is the quid pro quo?

There could be the perception of a big brother-type attitude from NZ Rugby here that borders on bullying. They and South Africa steamrolled through their tours plan with little resistance, yet when NZR is asked by its closest ally, both geographically, historically and politically, to perhaps compromise, there has been steadfast inflexibility.

I'm still hopeful it'll happen when the new NZR Board, Chair & pro/ community game governance structure beds in. Would need to be on a cost-share/ profit-share basis 'cos no NZ government is going to be able to tip in the funding some Aus states are willing to: shit, they even turned down the America's Cup which was once a sacred cow.

Next year might be too soon & then it's RWC year but maybe 2028?

In the article it states it was proposed as a 50-50 profit-sharing agreement at RA/NZRU level, and on top Super Rugby Clubs would receive $200k

Yeah it doesn’t make much sense. Seems they just didn’t want to play the extra game in Perth each year? Although every 2nd year could have been 2 games in NZ. And an extra 200k sounds about the only thing viable for super rugby. Reminds me when they turned down the 2003 World Cup. Not a lot of forward thinking imo.

Arrogant pricks. Would love to tell them to get stuffed when they’re struggling financially We’ll be defunct before that happens unfortunately.
I wouldn't be so sure. With their balls firmly in the tight silverlake grip for the foreseeable future and us about to host a BIL series and 2 world cup - our path looks better - even without a RSA tour
