Yep, at least Clan have some Otago blue & Southland kinda-maroon in there but 'canes look like the Harlem Globetrotters circa 1976.

Edit: it's pretty tenuous but 'canes could've gone with Thor based on the Scandinavian origins of plenty of people from Southern Hawkes Bay towns such as Norsewood & Dannevirke (Joh Bjelke-Petersens's home town, I think).

I don't think tenuous links matter, they really need to lean pretty heavily on colour matches above and beyond anything else. At least they do if we give a shit about the competition as a product. Fine to sell sponsorship and even jersey partnerships like this, but if you can't make it work without completely throwing the branding of the teams themselves out then just don't do it.

The worst part is they could've just shuffled the heroes (if Marvel locked them into this set) for a much better result - Blues go captain America, Crusaders go a spiderman that leans on the Red, Canes go Ironman that leans on the gold and Chiefs stay with Black Panther (credit where credit is due, the Chiefs black panther is great) and Highlanders stay with the Hulk.

Agree, poor miss by the AR & Referee, but the Highlanders will be ruing not putting that one away. They had their chances. Some really nice ball retention which they just couldn't convert and they looked honestly gased by the end. Not sure the Hurricanes were necessarily deserving of a win. Kirifi didn't look to have much seperation from his tackle/release on one of his turnovers in the second half.

I'd be curious what Sam Gilberts kicking stats are. Feels like he misses a few.
