In a few years they will be sued out of existence for their lack of protection provided to players.

I think the AFL have been one of the worst when it comes to concussion.

Incidences are reasonably high because of the way the game is played (players running towards each other with eyes for the ball on the ground) and most of the collisions are considered part of the game so there is no foul play element.

When there has been foul play for high bumps etc. the suspensions are generally tiny.

Worst of all it has never seemed like they are proactive to sit players out who have had obvious serious head knocks and were wobbly on their feet.

It's insanely lenient, this is an absolutely sickening hit.

If that was the NRL he'd have the reckless charge on it as well. He leaves the ground and jumps towards him as well which almost shows an intent to hit in a dangerous area. I won't say aim for the head but it's definitely a dangerous region he is knowingly going to make shoulder contact with. If he was standing still to hold his ground and laid him out it wouldn't be the same.

This would start at 5 in the NRL IMO.

The way they hit off the ball or from side on is a problem. When someone isn't prepared for the contact it's really dangerous

The big problem here is that the AFL looks at this as a player only getting their hit slightly wrong and the punishment is unlikely to be that harsh. Their suspensions are way too lenient to act as any sort of deterrent.

Rage bait is a viable approach for building (temporary) engagement but it's poor form and speaks to how flippant the AFL media generally are with this issue. Not sure how long you can be considered 'reasonable' for once you go down that path.

Totally agree, mate. Not that there aren't old fashioned thinkers in the inner sanctums and AFL media but Mitch Robinson currently isn't one, and probably won't be one.

Was listening to ABC radio last week and their was a discussion a panel that consisted of Norman Swan [ABC medical expert] a lawyer, morning host and an ABC journalist.

They were discussion the Wally Lewis issues, and the future impact on all codes especially rugby codes and the AFL.

Norman Swan I think it was or could have been the lawyer coined the phase the """Concussion Codes""" .

The phase in itself is off putting to parents, and it seems to be creeping into conversations, not sure if it will continue to grow, however as an issue for parents its getting bigger and bigger.

Norman Swan is a pretty reasonable health commentator in general. If he is using the term "concussion codes" it is not a good sign.
