World 12s Limited, a newly formed international company, says it will launch a 12-a-side rugby union tournament in August 2022 in England claiming it will bring £250 million into the sport. Players to be selected via auction for eight franchised teams.

Still can't see how it would work, if it played in Aug/sept as write up suggests would struggle to have SH players, or the RC wouldn't be played. I think I will wait to see how much od the report is fact and how much another wild and wooly idea that someone has come up with and a reporter etc has rub with it to get some clicks on the net!

we used to do that at training, two forward packs given the ball and had to rumble it up against each other between the sideline and 5m line..

Now that’s entertainment… none of this open space shit

I assume with the amount of money involved there will be some big pay days available.

I think there will be SH and RC players willing to go without a test cap to get a good payday. This has happened in the IPL as the money is too hard to knock back.

Is a 40th test cap really worth more to a player than their 30th? If you have represented your country then there is little to be achieved, winning is nice but that is usually a team effort so many may take the individual route to setting themselves up for life.

I think it'll run for a maximum of 3 seasons as ambitioned, being very underwhelming commercially, and not offering anything we haven't seen before with 10s. A handful of players (mostly MLR, JRLO, Sevens and Super Rugby players picking up their first European contracts) will make bank screwing around for 6-8 weeks at a time. Whatever investors/owners they manage to bring in will then force the league to scale back its ambitions, the appeal to the "stars" dries up and it limps its way across one or two more seasons before being canned, and somebody ends up getting away with investor cash.

The most disappoitning, yet unsurprising, part of this is that typical administrative fat cats (Ritchie, Tew) and blokes like Hansen put their names to it in exchange for some quick $. These guys understand better than most that:

- Finding a global Rugby calendar which works for Clubs & National Bodies has proven impossible so far, before you add a third player in the mix
- Players are already playing too much football from a wellness perspective
