theres a 13 year old at our school in the Bronco academy. 13! Now I'm sure he's not getting paid but he's getting kit and at the very least a S&C program which he does diligently in the school gym
Perhaps the Reds should give kit to every Jnr State Champ team from 12 and up, or select team from those tournaments, and say they are in the Reds Jnr Academy.

well I guess we'll learn more from the studies but I remember hearing some pretty horrendous stories of how these young kids were treated in the professional environment.

It starts off with kit and a one off payment for $2000.
There needs to be some sort of rugby brand promotion. Kit is simple advertising and gets the young ones identifying with their idol players.
Years ago the Reds used to send a Reds coaching team to the schools. Sometimes the players would join them. Obviously the budget doesn’t stretch that far now. I’m sure a few schools and businesses would chip in for this if asked.

Mate this is a massive problem and not one that NRL are ignorant to or taking lightly. There are many closed door discussions that have been in effect for the past 12 months. On top on this, many clubs have invested in professional advice such as physiologist and medical practitioners to have on hand. Not elitist. A real problem.

It seems to me you haven’t read the article and /or understood it’s central assertion - and that is homer made kool aid is a one way ticket to organisational shitsville . This central assertion is entirely consistent with how Rugby businesses in Australia do business and what you extolled , in the contrary view , as the clever way of stamped passport progression in roster strategies .
I believe Cameron has done his research well which portrays a factual reality of significant underperformance ( with likely more of the same to come ) which largely is built on myopic dysfunction
I don’t know whether it’s lip service or not but I’ve had people that count at RA tell me insofar as they are concerned they start looking more seriously at 18 up. It’s why you have guys like Joe Cotton on tour at the moment ( 2nds at a GPS School 2 years ago ) and Issac Henry as the next back in if he’s needed
A lot of these boys are going to have to start again next year and also at U19 NRC level

What I was trying to say is you seem to saying that RA and QRU are producing such a good product when in fact it’s more like the opposite .

RL is winning the battle of the codes, and what we see from a spectators point of view is highly paid players getting the big crowds in comparison to rugby. It screams success. But on the flip side the statistics show destruction of some players on the way.
Don’t get me wrong RA needs a shake up and a clean out. In the past 8 years poor decisions have had massive detriment to the game. There needs to be more money coming in so that smart investment is directed at growing the numbers in rugby. We need the money first, and the only way for that to happen is at the top end which is RA. Recruitment and retaining good talent is governed by the dollars. QRU appears to sign fewer numbers on a decent contract, rather than the masses on a contract that holds no security or future. This is what I believe is managed well. Don’t get me wrong, the more money, the better opportunity for better sustainable recruitment. From a viewer of both codes, I would much prefer to have my son coming through the ranks in rugby. Rugby will become great again. We just need a change in power.

I believe both received pretty substantial RL and NZ rugby offers. Obviously their decision to stay in Australia to play rugby had its merits.Lets hope we can keep them.

Hearsay not facts. But reliable hearsay.
More hearsay would suggest the Pasitoa and Gordon are not too far off the mark. I see both at the higher end of the echelon in the next 5 years so that may be the romance their looking for. It’s always been a numbers game, and when we have 2 very talented players who are in the 1%ers their future looks bright with dollars and a ‘lotta love’.
