The most important thing out of this match was the pure, undiluted class A confidence that the Wallabies scored. A very solid scoreline, and this was squandering a load of points. Here are my payer ratings, tally with what you saw? Scoring system at the bottom.
1. Benn Robinson: Another scrum dominated, on cue. A pest in the loose to boot. Legend. 9 G&GR’s Wallaby man of the match
2. TPN: Became the Wallabies hardman with some kamikaze hits in the first 20 which set the tone 7
3. Ben Alexander: Beasted the beast. 8
4. James Horwill: Another notch up, but not back to his best 6
5. Mark Chisholm: Not sure he’s got the line-out sussed yet but is a reformed seagull who does the tough stuff. 6
6. Rocky Elsom: A few mistakes but how good it is to have him back. 7
7. David Pocock: Finally started in his right position and what a difference it made, he was everywhere. 8
8. George Smith (c): Solid at 8 but didn’t sparkle. 5
9. Will Genia: Fantastic first game, pass isn’t as flawless as many Queenslanders would have you believe. 7
10. Matt Giteau: Giteau is completely out of sorts and his decision making has become bizarre. Basic skills still sharp. 5
11. Lachie Turner: A certain try he should have finished, but still looking dangerous. 5
12. Berrick Barnes: Still not 100% but he looks the real Wallaby 10. 7
13. Adam Ashley-Cooper: Dangerous in attack and defence. 7
14. Drew Mitchell: Knows what he needs to do, when. 7
15. James O’Connor: Quite simply a genius on his feet. A try to boot 7
