From news.com.au today:

"It was Deans who personally intervened when Ioane looked certain to head to Japan mid-year.

How many national coaches fly in, sit down to tea with a player, spell out a spine-tingling destiny in the gold jersey and then pose for family photos? "

I'm not wild about it. Sets a dangerous precedent for players not 'feeling the love'. Laurie Mains would never have done such a thing.

so he kept a player here against his will and probably added another 100 grand to his pay packet cos the jersey wasnt reason enough?

deans is awesome, do you honestly think if deans was being payed more than any australian coach in history he would have left the crusaders, the current team, staff included are cashin checks, its about time they tried playin some god damn rugby instead!

Wow, three options around here:

1) Cheer
2) Piss and Moan
3) Moan and Piss

Digby's a good player. Maybe we wouldn't have so many good players overseas if coaches did some ground work rather than just calling meetings and handing out 60-page playbooks.

I agree we don't want players running the show, and knowing they just have to express the lack of love they are feeling, but we don't have the depth to let a player of Ioane's calibre walk, so in my opinion it was worth the effort.
