In Eddies golden year of rugby who was our backs/ attack coach that walked out because Eddie is a lunatic?

I thought our backline moves with either Bernie or Medicare at 10 were superb that season wether it be from set piece or general play our backs seemed to carve up that year.

Ever since then we were ok when Bernie was in charge & now we're basically just shit.

I thought the french showed that there is still plenty of ways to play good running rugby when they were in NZ, especially in game 2 when they lost but still threw the ball around in horrible conditions.

In 2004, that pathetic dipshit Roger Gould was hired but quit after a massive commitment of 2 matches. What do you expect from a Queenslander ? Amateur hour softcocks, one and all. Almost as good as Andrew Slack, who'd never coached before, quitting after discovering that coaching wasn't for him.

Growden and his worshippers believe the myth that Gould quit because of Eddie Jones' man management. Gould was a clueless lightweight who was merely embarassed playing second fiddle as coach in name only to Larkham was running the shots. Since then, Gould has gone on to...um...great heights as..um...er...yeah..

After Gould quit, Wallaby great Stephen Larkham was the backline coach for 2004 & 2005. John Connolly was head coach in 2006 and Scott Johnson (Mat Rogers is the 10 for me !) was appointed backs/attack coach.

Ironically, I do reckon the best backs coach around is Australian.

Alan Gaffney.

Since he left, your backs simply haven't been the same. If you had Gaff there now, I reckon you'd have won a couple of games you lost this season. He's brilliant at getting teams to keep reinventing themselves.

Why is it ironic?

Ironic in the context of recent discussions about the decline and fall of Wobbly back play.

Crap, our backs didn't do well under Gaffney at all. From memory he didn't last more than 1 year in the Wallaby setup.

its not the first time Roger has run away from the Wallaby set up when it all became a bit tough.

Speaking of back's coaches, I look forward to seeing what (if any) influence Pat Howard can have on the Reds backs next year.

To get back to the original question it was in fact Alan Gaffney. He left when Eddie was sacked as EJ (Eddie Jones) brought him in as Alan was his coach at Randwick in the late '80s.

Is he the official backs coach, or just a 'consultant'?

I think that Jim McKay is the backs coach.

But Alec Evans is a 'consultant' and is apparently scrum coach, so I am hoping Pat has some form of hands on role somewhere.

Cuelanders, don't waste a second thinking about your backs, they are ok. Worry about 1-8 and 16-19.

Thanks Aussie D.
It was definitely 2005 when our backs kept us alive & I take it that Gaffney was the reason Randwick were known as the galloping greens?

:) :) Gaffney is an old codger but I wonder if he was even alive when Randwick was first called the "Galloping Greens"

So that means their whole backline will run sideways like some sort of Lote Tuqiri-Matt Giteau clones.

Tahs by 40.

I know Roger personally. He definetly walked because Jones is a lunatic. For the record he has coached quite successfully at the kennel. In fact, when Latham was dropped from the Qld team he was the one that mentored him back to the player he became.

What type of dog does he coach?

A bulldog. aka the Western Districts of Brisbane. Any team with "wests" in its name is worthy of respect, and support.
