Already got potentially small locks, can't have gamble as a 6 with another guy at 7.

likely 6. leota 8. gleeson 7. Gamble with new guy as the backup
man Gamble went from talk of oz 7 to not making Tahs 7 ... Leota 6 , Gamble 7 and Gleeson 8... come on cant be anything else.

At super level it's fine if you run Leota (or another jumping backrow) at 6 or 8, and I wouldn't be amazed to see it given most of the tahs backrowers don't have the motor to go 80, where as it looks like Adamson might.

I don't think Gamble was ever as close as he was made out to be. He's a very solid player, particularly at super level, but none of his attributes are 'stand out' enough to suggest he'd make it as a test 7, particularly in Australia where the field is so congested. Really doesn't help that part of his success in super is as a 'bigger' 7, but he's doesn;t seem to be big enough (or dynamic enough) to bring that size to bear in top flight test rugby, so it just makes him a slower 7. He's very much the 3rd coming of Beau Robinson (Jordy Reid was the 2nd coming).

Gamble will be fine. He was never poor and probably played like the entire side did. Hard for a 7 to look any good when the bigger boys aren't getting in done in close.

Adamson is a very good player and does offer a point of difference. Tahs need a backup genuine 7 regardless of the rest of the squad. Slack-Smith is done. Durbidge a 19 year old and when we needed it the last two years Hunter Ward from Manly got the call up...

"In the first week back for the Waratahs’ Wallabies contingent, and under pouring rain on Thursday, Sua'ali'i trained mostly on the wing."

he did admit to having one serious ambition. That of being one of the Waratahs’ goalkickers. Sua'ali'i has every reason to reach for the kicking tee, given he boasts the NRL’s best kicking record at a ground, never missing from 29 attempts at Allianz Stadium. The former Rooster’s pitch for the role is perfectly timed, given the Waratahs will host the Highlanders for the first game of Super Rugby on February 14 at a stadium where he didn’t miss.

“I’ve always practised kicking and obviously Tane [Edmed] has the role here and, yeah, I’m just trying to get that second spot now,” Sua'ali'i said with a smile.

Although Wallabies’ coach Joe Schmidt had enough tactical faith in Sua'ali'i to throw him into international rugby at centre, the player admitted that switching to a new code at the highest level had provided significant challenges. “I’d say just defensively, just where to be in different positions, also just learning the plays,” Sua'ali'i said.

“There’s a lot of set piece attack and all of that, just trying to also lower my tackle height, I know that’s a big thing in rugby. That’s probably the three things I’ve been focusing on, but there are lots of things I’ve been working at.”

Then there's some stuff about coaches and Wallabies coaches but it's the usual This is my focus rhetoric. JS seems like a genuinely good guy with a good head on his shoulders for a bloke who is only 21.

Can't tell me a bit of competition at training wont make them better? Hope it does.

Noah was good for the Wobs last year but over the last few years it's not been a strong point in Aus Rugby and you need it to be. Big games are close and you also keep opposition teams on their toes if you have kickers who are very reliable. Holds a defence just a step or makes the other no.7 think maybe I won't go hands in here.

Tane has Creighton from the Reds and Bowen as well vying for the 10 position. He will get first crack but depending on form no guarantee to stay there all season . Sua'ali'i could then kick then?

Creighton finished last season in good form so I’d imagine he’ll definitely be in the mix for selection at 10 at some stage this year. A no frills player but very solid with plenty of experience and a competent goal kicker.

No frills and a guy you trust might be the way they go if they want to just get the ball to the guys outside them. Don't necesarily need a focal point at 10.

Trials are usually just a bit of fitness but the 10s will really want time on the park. Means a lot to a guy like Bowen as Creighton has a body of work at Super Rugby level. Bit of a Jack Deb role for the Tahs?

Feel like this choice was going to be made.

Bell is an option but he should just focus on consistent fitness right now. Other guys like Edmed seem like leaders in the group but are also in a positional battle so you can't really consider them. Porecki also coming back from injury another in squad leader.

Jake Gordon captain again of the Waratahs. Continuity I guess amid all the new faces. Makes sense. I hope McKellar instructs him to pass more and kick less with the potent backline they have.

If the pigs provide him with good front foot ball - he will pass more

If, like last season, he gets slow sloppy ball; he will continue to kick the shit out of it

If they want people to go and pay their hard earned $$ to watch that should be the instruction
