Game takes place Saturday week.

With the announcement of the Wallabies squad today it might be a little bit early for this topic to be bought up, but none the less.

Will update for injuries

Injured:
Genia
TPN

Who else is injured?

let's not forget Fiji either. There's every chance Rupeni Caucau will be playing his first test v Australia, whilst Nemani Nebalo (or whatever) could also be making his international debut.

Caccau was one hell of a player. Seeing him live during the RWC (Fiji v France) at Lang Park was a privilege. He's been an idiot but hell if he gets his shit together he is just electric fast.

I saw him v France (Bris) AND v Scotland (SFS). Both were O for O-some.

Sadly he must be nearing his expiry date, its a shame he couldn't sort his shit out earlier. I remember the SFS game particularly well I thought the Fijians were unlucky to lose that.

Cooper will start. Deans will want to see him play outside a crap half back. And will want him to have a run with Giteau. And he deserves it.

Hynes will start. He's the incumbant and Turner certainly has not played better than him or been a key member of the best backline in the S14.

To play Rugby you are supposed to tackle Cooper is a friggin turnstile.

I'm very surprised Turner was selected in the squad to be honest. Sure he had the odd good game but I don't think he warrants selection. I hope that he's far away from the team as possible, as I think he's got too much of a high error rate. I wouldn't also be surprised if Deans doesn't go for Hynes over Mitchell. Mitchell has performed well, but his performance in the Wallabies jersey has failed to impress. Cooper will get first shot over Barnes.

And my prediction of the week, Giteau will fail to impress in these matches, and will be dropped.

I wouldn't be surprised if Deans has a 'horses for courses' approach (pardon the pun) and tries to keep the S 14 team combinations together for the earlier games.

But I'm not him so we shall wait and see I guess.

apparently Hynes will be unavailable for the first test, together with TPN and Genia.

What errors are you talking about?

Turner has been one of (if not the) the most solid defensive winger in the super 14 this year. He has become seriously good under the high ball.

He also has been a very good finisher for the Tahs, ending up with as many tries as the wunderkind of the year (Mitchell).

Mitchell is a better tackle buster, I agree - a trait he shares with Ioane. If anything, those two would be fighting it out for the same spot with Hynes and Turner fighting out the other wing possy (if Hynes doesn't go to fullback) since they both offer the safety in defence/second fullback type wing. Turner however, has a significant speed advantage over Hynes as a finisher.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Hynes. I'd probably have him as my first choice FB at the moment (although in the Fiji game I wouldn't mind seeing KB (Kurtley Beale) in action) and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) at 13.

Turner is a quicker "Hynes" both have great workrates, chase hard and work back hard to provide support. Hynes is a better tackler breaker.

If fit Mitchell and Digby will be selected.

By your logic applied to Turner and Mitchell having poor records (in your eyes) for the Wallabies, why would Barnes be put behind Cooper then? Overall he's probably done more in the Wallabies than Cooper. Mitchell 2010 is playing a different game to previous years, so I think deserves the benefit of the doubt.
Who would you think deserved selection ahead of Turner? If you say Davies, I would argue he has done less in S14 this year than Turner. McCabe the same. Both have had good moments, I will not dispute. Just curious, you know.

Re: Wallabies v Fiji, Canberra

There is a big difference between test and S14.

My concern about Cooper is that a lot of his effectiveness comes from his unstructured style and risk taking.

I expect Cooper's play in test matches to cause a great deal of angst at times. Hopefully the return will be worth it.
