I'd be surprised if the IRB went along with that. The major unions lose nothing by playing midweek games. It is the IRB that loses out on the TV revenue and the host country that may lose out because it will be harder to fill stadiums midweek.

Sad but true.

I will maintain that we either the tournament goes for a week longer. Cmon Rugby people you know you want it to. Also assist the smaller nations with their costs to be at the tournament.

Making the tournament a week longer and putting in a plate comp for teams 3 and 4 in the pool would be excellent.

Mostly because it would mean more world cup rugby.

this is the solution to all of the worlds problems. More rugby, More rugby, More rugby.
keep them over there and get more content, more content = more rugby
it will also mean some great matches, who wouldnt have wanted to see Tonga v Samoa in this cup, would have been epic.

It could be the first game to be telecast with a parental warning:
Warning: frequent violent collisions and occasional coarse tweets.

There has to be a plate and bowl competition at the RWC. It's a shame that it's a given for teams like Russia to play the pools and go home.

Agree with the more content = more $$ rule.

Totally agree with you there. Not just for the extra games but also just so the teams get to stay in NZ for the remainder of the cup. That said fifteen teams is a difficult number to organize into a knockout competition.

The IRB is happy to have Tier One, and particularly the European 6 Nations' sides, playing mid week in the 2015 RWC because the tournament is hosted by England.

Television viewing numbers will be high regardless of Saturday or Tuesday, for example, in relation to the take up of games broadcast from New Zealand this year.

Just on the bowl idea:

On the Thursday / Friday before the RWC quarter finals, you play Bowl semi-finals for the 3rd placed teams in each group.

On the Thursday / Friday before the RWC semi-finals, you play the Bowl final.

Everyone agreed, say aye?
