I know that the outcome of a box kick is essentially random and that sometimes the result may well go your way (last night prior to Samo's try), but does anyone else think that a) Genia seems too keen to use it and b)Doing it in your own 40 is too risky?

Too many of them seem to be too short or too long, IMO.

It would be part of the game plan I would think.. A box kick is better than a passing it back to the 10 to kick as it means the all the players not in the ruck are onside and can chase. If the only other option is passing it back to kick I think a good box kick is better. Genia's box kicks are pretty good relatively speaking. Burgo's on the other hand are pretty average....

Fair to say that Genia's box kicks last night could have been better, but it was a rare off night as far as that went. 9 games out of 10 he seems to get them right. In addition, it's far from the only string to his bow and his passing and running game were both still on song last night, so I don't see that we should by laying into him for it.

The perfect example of why a box kick can be good was Samo's try. Everyone onside, moving forward at speed, and the ball contestable. We are on the front foot whether we win or lose the ball.
