Watching some rugby on EuroSport a couple of nights back I heard David Flatman opine:

"Dusatoir and Lewis Moody are undoubtedly the best tacklers in world rugby".

Anyone agree ... or disagree?

Sounds like a bit of commentating hyperbole - I remember one NH scribe stating Wilkinson is the best tackler the game has ever seen.

As much as I'm a massve fan of Moody I've seen him fall of a tackle before. Dusatoir I haven't seen enough of, but from what I have seen he's pretty bloody impressive & I wouldn't be lining up to go running into him. I guess it depends on hw they define it. Is it least amount of tackles missed, or the hardest hitter?

let me be the first..... Tom Carter O0

but seriously, looking locally Pocock had a very strong S14 last year and international campaign when it came to tackles statistically. and morty has had some real gems, but probably isn't in that class at this stage of his career.

anyone of that french backrow is pretty impressive

Best tackler in the world?

How do you even measure that? Average number of hits a game? Effectiveness? Missed hit %?

It's an impossible thing to measure. Completely subjective. Those blokes are both good though. Have seen them in numerous games this season and Dusatoir is a fantastic all round player.

I reckon he'd be about the best tackling 10 I've seen...

Epi sure you saw Lem (Honiball) on his day. Heinrich Brussouw is a pretty outstanding tackler for a small frame, he dont just do thatbut poach in a flash, ask McCaw.

I enjoyed a few of Polota-Naus hits last season

But are we talking big hits, glitzy shoelace stuff or game saving tackles?

I'm with rsea, some of :nau:'s hits were absolutely massive, he won several crucial turnovers

TPN definitely wins most psychotic tackling style - he just torpedoes in there with little thought for his own safety and that must scare the shit out of blokes who can't sidestep...

Which is one of the reasons why he has, to all intents and purposes, spent the last six years broken.

Best tackle would have to be Holies ankle tap last year to win the game. I forget which game it was though... good on me.

Best tackler is too subjective of a question.

Gregan was one of the best for his size. I think Moody is definitely up there, as for backs I think Peter Hynes could definitely be one of the best as well.

Who?

Wasn't Holies the slow bowler who knocked over Bradman in his last test to deny the Don a test average of 100?

And to think he's still playing!

I grant you that Holies but I thought this Holies might be the outside centre for one of the Vatican XVs. Perhaps his ankle tap was on Flately?

Disagree 100%.

David Pocock is the best tackler in the game "no doubt" with or without stats he's number 1 in my eyes.

I'd go as far as saying best tackler in both codes, League use to have some freak tacklers like David Gillespie, Ian Roberts, Trevor Gillmeister & even little Geoff Toovey but ATM I rate Pocock the best all round defender in the game.

Best technique, hard hitter, great cover defender can hit the legs or go ball & all.

Pound-for-pound Milton Thaiday was about the hardest tackler the S14 has ever seen. Will never forget the tour game Scotland played against the Tahs a few years back where their blindside ran straight at him. Milton was at fullback and the only thing stopping a try - he hit the bloke in the breadbasket and drove straight up, stopping the bigger man (by about 20kg) in his tracks. It was special to watch.

'deed it was. Roebuckesque. Buck Shelford thought Roebuck could tackle a bit.
