On Sunday 2 Aug, Sydney JRU vs NSW Country teams from u14s, u15s, u16s & u17s are playing at TG Milner Eastwood in what should be a great day of rugby. Sydney u18s may also be playing but I can't confirm yet. The first game kicks off at 9am with the u14s.
All of these players play club rugby or colts and almost all participated at the NSW State Championships with the 14s, 15s & 16s also playing at the Sydney Regionals 3 weeks ago at Boronia.
This Sunday forms part of a critical pathway for players not attending private schools and should be thoroughly supported & promoted. It's just a real shame that there is absolutely no promotion from any of the Sydney or NSW rugby bodies.

City U14s looking strong. From what I heard at state champs country will be week in this age, although you never know what can happen when the country boys pull on the jersey!

Should be a great day of rugby.

Doesn't surprise me there's been no promotion from the parent bodies.

There a a few handy players in the Country U16's that will enjoy the opportunity to upstage their City opponents.

U18s match was scheduled but has been deferred most likely due to Colts semis.
Country 17s will be out to avenge their loss to Sydney on the bell 3 weeks ago in an entertaining match. Although Sydney look to have improved since that game after defeating two UK touring sides in convincing fashion. Will be one not to make miss.

Whilst the 14s play at 9am, for some reason the 15s don't until 11.10. Thereafter it's back to back. Anyone have any insights?

Agreed. On paper they have quality, depth and (mostly) good recent form across the park. The question will be how quickly they can get into a rhythm and play as a team. The problem Sydney faces each year is a 3 week campaign and no-one to trial against. Country by comparison may not seem as strong individually, but have trained "together" (acknowledging distance issues) since JSCs and played together at Regionals, admittedly as 2 teams. Last year a strong Syd 14s were only able to win by 10-0 so it could be a close one.

There is a 16s game between a NSW Presidents team v Bowral club/school team. This was organised due to the Illawarra comp folding & leaving one team standing with no opposition to play. The NSW team is made up of country players who missed out and also Sydney players playing in the B grade Comp. a great initiative by Sydney Juniors to showcase players that may otherwise fly under the radar or just need to play more rugby.

Any snouts going along that give score updates, and a photo or two and even a match report or scoring summary?

Sydney won all games today Country gained plenty of respect in all games. Sydney 17s won 38-17. 16s was a bit closer. Not sure of other scores.

Syd 15s won 39-10. Took a few mins for Syd to get into rhythm and Country scored first to make it look like it might be a battle. But once the Syd boys got into a rythym - having had no trial match - they were impressive apart from the line out. Country competed pretty well at the breakdown and got their fair share of penalties, but the Syd pack had size advantage and the backs were very sharp - Country couldn't compete with their pace and execution. The 7 tries to 1 margin was a fair reflection of the difference between the teams.

The 15s NSW squad was announced soon after the match, with 17 Syd and 6 Country boys selected. All of the starting 15 for Syd bar no.2 and no. 7 were selected along with 4 of the Syd bench. They play in the u16s invitational weekend in September. That will be a huge challenge given the quality of the NSW Schools U16s.

Congrats to all of the boys selected. To those who missed out and are very disappointed tonight, this is just one group's opinion. Keep working and a different group of selectors will have a different view next time.

With so many caught up in the school system ie majority what's the point of having them selected in A NSW Club rep team. Shouldn't it be for those that don't have that opportunity ??

Not sure why they don't have NSW Schools and a NSW Club team in both 15s and 16s.
