Suncorp Stadium Atmosphere Lacking

Did anyone else notice the lack of atmosphere at last nights game? I really missed the drummers and the dick on the mic revving the crowd up. We got there early to check out the entertainment outside but... their wasn't any. We go to most Reds Super 14 games which only have half the people, but theirs twice the atmosphere. I was a bit disappointed it really felt like it was done on the cheap

Thought it was odd that no song was playing during our victory lap. Maybe the ARU has lost that "Number on my Back" song.

There were a few cracks at starting up Waltzing Matilda where I was sitting but none that really set the stadium alight. Aussies, unlike the English, don't generally sing without a bit of prompting. Could be time to bring John Williamson out of retirement.

But given that the World Cups in NZ next year, maybe we should be singing a song about something other than stealing sheep. ARU should run a "Song for the Wallabies" contest.

I'm sure that what you say is true, but it doesn't change the fact that this event was a major come down after watching the Reds Vs Bulls/Stormers at Suncorp. Perhaps my expectations were to high but their was little effort made to entertain the crowd other than the main event. Kudos to the Reds for putting on a great show I guess. After attending most of their games last season I'm thinking of season tickets whereas I'm not sure I'll go to another international fixture

I went to the Irish Test and also found the atmosphere outside the stadium lacking (other than Caxton street). My expectations have been set by the Reds games this year - particularly activities for the kids. At least the Irish supporters did lots of singing ...

The crowd was only 44,000, thought that was a bit low. A fair few empty seats, think that is a fair way below capacity (which is 70?).

I didn't go to the game, but I think it is good to hear that there wasn't any loud stupid music and sound affects coming through the speakers or some dickhead on the mic making a fool of himself. This is what annoyed me about Reds game these past few years. I think it should be up to the fans at the ground to make the noise, chants and mexican waves etc. At Reds games this year, crowd noise sound effects that bleed your ears come through the ground speakers; it is really obvious as well when the stadium is only half full.

So I conclude - I don't think it has anything to do with Suncorp Stadium, it is the patrons who go to the game who are responsible. You might want to get off your bum rsea and start revving the crowd up yourself if it is such a concern.

You might think differently if you attended. I too found the music / mic guy annoying at the Reds but I preferred it over what we got Saturday night.

From what you saw of the people at the game, would they be likely to go to another game? Did the majority of people look like they enjoyed the experience?

Also, how was the grog?

Atmosphere was pretty good. Although there were a lot of families with kids around the age of 10 around me, so not a hell a lot of loud cheering or in fact much idea of what was going on at all.

I think the ARU might be missing a huge opportunity to make international tests a more rewarding and family fun experience. I'm not a big one for the whole blaring music and announcer thing, but given the fairly chunky ticket prices, would it not make sense to have curtain raiser-games? I think someone may have mentioned this in a previous thread.

At the moment, you turn up, watch a test and go home. Why not have club rugby games scheduled for the day such as grade 3 to seniors, leading into the main event i.e. the test match? Make the test day a rugby experience.

par in the courier mail today suggesting that the local pubs say its a bigger night for them post test match, over an Origin.

I guess the SOO is on a Wednesday night though.

I won't speak for others but the quality of the game was fantastic and Suncorp is probably the best venue in Australia to watch Rugby. Whoever organised this event (possibly Reddy) obviously chose to let the rugby speak for itself and organised virtually nothing in support of it.

For sure, it engages spectators for longer and a great experience for the players

This would give local Rugby fans exposure to the local comp and possibly create a bigger fan base for it

How good was it this year when the reds were winning and the zorba would come on and the drunks would be straight up on there feet dancing.
