James Slipper cleared to play for stormers match. Sanzar officer wasn't satisfied that he was dangerously lifted. Good news for Reds

REDS prop James Slipper is clear to play in the top-of-the-table clash against the Stormers in Cape Town on Sunday morning (Qld time) after being found not guilty of a dangerous lifting tackle charge.

At a Cape Town hearing last night, the young Wallaby was cleared by a SANZAR judicial officer who failed to be satisfied that a tackle on Lions hooker Bandise Maku was in breach of the law relating to lifting an opponent off the ground and then dropping or driving him into the ground.

Slipper had been cited after hisyellow card in last weekend's Super Rugby match in Johannesburg.

The decision is a major boost for the Reds as they prepare to meet the unbeaten Stormers.

Slipper is very fortunate, based on my view of the incident. I thought he would get a few weeks's rest.

Maybe this is the Year of the Red.

Wow, didn't see that coming. I would have bet anything he would have got at least 2 weeks.

I still think he should have, to be honest. To my untrained eye it looked bad, given the Lion dude came down with his head at an awkward angle. It sure didn't look like he was being supported on the way down...

Good news for Slipper and the Reds. Big lift for the Stormers match. I am very surprised. Then again, it is the SANZAR judicial system which is about as predictable as Carlos Spencer on speed!

I think the Lions hierarchy would be scratching their heads as they had their full back banned for 3 weeks after a similar incident in round 3.
Maybe the Reds have better defence lawyers.

Ja, I'd be pretty pissed off right now if I was that Kamana bloke.

As happy as i am that slipper got off, something really needs to be done to sort out the SANZAR judicial process. Seeing that the hearing was in Cape Town, I wouldn't be surprised if Reds management handed a few of their goats over to the judiciary members along with a suitcase of ZAR.

Gold. Well just goes to show tries are worth they're way.

This gives us a big boost for the big game. Who is staying up for some blow by blow live wanging on for this one?

Just saw the replay. Have to say the tackle was very bad. Worse IMO than the one that Sidey got canned for.

The SANZAR judiciary is just way too inconsistant. If there is one thing the NRL does well it is the whole reporting and judical system with the various gradings etc.

He pleaded guilty, dom I think. In SA they seem to be much more leniant compare to Aus or NZ to this citing shite anyway.

Its the inconsistency thats frustrating. Sidey red card and 3 weeks,Kamana yellow card and 3weeks, Slipper yellow card and let off.
I also thought I saw a lifting tackle in the Brumbies v Highlanders game by Thompson on Kimlin or maybe Salvi that went completely unpunished.
