Shute Shield 2025

Heard Easts have signed up #7 NICOLLE, #8 DALRYMPLE, #9 DICKENS, #12 BASSINGTHWAIGHTE, and #13 SERFONTEIN from their 2024 Prem winning Colts side.

The balance of that Colts winning team (from the looks of the names in NSW and ACT U19s) still have another year to go, or surplus to requirements.

So i asked around about this.

frean, zissis, tuisese, hokafanu, snook, stringer, tapine, maumalanga, schuster, talaieva, minogue, turner, carmichael, andrews, king, hickey, connolly, johnson, anstee, barnes, hickey, alofi, kaihea, likiafu, tau, nobeti, have all gone. quite a lot of players.

although i do think that a lot of the young guys that came through this year are pretty good and will be even better in 2025, plus i heard there has been a lot of recruitment from brisbane. i think they will go well in first grade in 2025, it might just be some depth issues.
Easy for Shute Shield to recruit out of Brisbane when the Reds dont even talk to players at Hospital Cup and 2 or 3 Brisbane based player agents actively promote moving to Sydney for young blokes.

Qld rugby doing it best to shoot itself in the foot again.

Not across the Brisbane comp enough to argue with you but has the Challenger series games not helped? Or does it seem more lip service? Reds have definitely recruited hard from outside sources recently and not as if Kiss really has ties to Club Rugby up there from what I can think of. League player who then went to North Sydney

That was another way they balls things up this year.

Had the Challenger Series last year and was well supported and gained good traction, then this year NO SHOW - Did not hold it.

Gavin Head and Sam Cordingley couldn't give a stuff about clubland, it appears.

Sam did play a bit of club rugby, for Eastwood.

For parra to be good, they need depth, and quality depth at that. these few guys might provide a little of that. no way of breaking into top 6 though as those main clubs are too far ahead for now.

Tough to compete - their First Grade sit just outside the top 6 but their lower Grades and Colts simply aren't in the race and are lucky to win a handful of games between them.

There's a lot of potential out this way, but there is a lot of rugby league clubs with money as well. Not an easy arms race to win.

I saw a report recently to the effect that a new position is being funded "Head of Rugby for Western Sydney".
