Should Australia go for the 2027 RWC?

As everyone knows, the Lions tour is this year, and the interest in Rugby is already noticeable. Hell, I even heard Rugby mentioned on Channel 9! And the Lions won't be back until 2025.

We know where the 2015 and 2019 world cups are and the bidding for 2023 is already well underway. But, say we see an improvement in viewership for Rugby in the next two years - Would the Lions tour be a basis to go for the RWC? We all remember 2003, did the 2001 Lions tour help with that?

If the Lions tour ISN'T a good enough reason, should we just go for it anyway? Why/Why not?

I think after the English World Cup, it should go the "emerging" rugby nations so say 2023:USA which could even split the groups between California and the North East, which I believe are the big rugby areas. 2027 could maybe go to Georgia, Romania or maybe a joint Portugal/Spain bid.

If the IRB are serious about turning rugby into a genuine world sport then this would be a step in the right direction. However it goes without saying Australia is one of the few countries in the world that could hold a major sporting tournament at any time, the facilities here really are superb.

I think we should certainly be looking at hosting another RWC soon. NZ got it back after 24 years. We had it in 2003 so 2027 seems fair to me! :)

We have some of the best stadiums in the world, all major cities have more than one stadium that can be used for Rugby. We now have low budget air fairs to get around the place and we can time our games to attract a massive TV audience.

Everything is already in place to host another World Cup.

Depends how much the IRB wants for the hosting rights. The price tag has been soaring and pretty much forces the host nation into losing money.

I also think it has to go to Argentina first and be offered to Italy (I doubt they could afford it at the moment) before it comes to us again. All tier 1 nations should get the opportunity.

Would love to see Argentina host it, but that's got to be a bit off as they have only really started hosting important test matches last year.

After Japan I think 2023 will go back to a Rugby traditionalist.

I think a serious bid could come from Russia to host a World Cup, the growth of the game is big and they have the money and stadiums to host the event.

The GAA are voting in a few weeks to open up various grounds around the country so Ireland can bid. Although I'd love to see us host it the country really can't take the financial strain right now. Plus seeing as I live in Australia naturally it would be handy if it was here.

That would be good for the game, would be a lot like the World Cup in NZ if Ireland were to host it except the pubs would be better prepared. I would go for sure as it would be the cheapest place for me to do a World Cup trip, properly cheaper than if Australia actually hosted it as I have accommodation everywhere and getting around is so easy.

Think it would actually be great for the Irish GFC problems although it is a long way away.
