Schoolboy rugby is at it's best fantastic viewing, and arguably the best/cheapest entertainment going around

however almost as interesting is all the power-play that goes on behind the scenes.

Sydney schools and their attitude/approach to rugby is in a constant state of flux

and I thought a dedicated spot for related info/opinions might be interesting - particularly if not too defamatory and assuming there can be mature discussion/enlightening information etc

to kick it off .... I see that the Scots Sports Director (Cameron Torrance) is headed to Cranbrook in 2016

I think the biggest influences in schoolboy rugby are Headmasters, Sports Heads, School Powerbrokers and changing demographics.

I'm wondering if any Cranbrook power brokers are behind this latest appointment. I'm hearing some Eastern Suburbs gossip about the power some of these have, and where Cranbrook is directed.

The picture actually bears more than a striking resemblance to another well-known leader at TSC rather than the person being discussed.;)

Scots Andrew cleverley ... Also moved to cranbrook? Since Brian smith landed there have been a few movements of note.

I would Be interested to know the school boy coaches with the best records in the modern era ...

In terms of top 5 at a guess I would be thinking in the mix might be

Brother Boyd - joeys
Egerton, newington/kings
Papahatzis St augustines
Tony hannon Sydney high
Chuck ardron- knox

Runner

Of the coaches mentioned here only one is at a school that moved from strong Rugby League culture to a strong Rugby Union culture.

If you view the other thread about the decline in school boys rugby then Papahatzis must be doing a great deal right

Another one moves to lower Bellevue Hill.

Wow ... The cranbrook cheque book is running hot

I know they are building towards their centenary in 2018

But if they get anymore sports coaches ...
And it'll be the proverbial ..."all hat and no cattle"

Either way by all accounts they have picked up a good athletics coach there

I hear Tim Cleary is finishing up at Saint augustines.

I knew he did a spell at Riverview but didn't realise he was at WAverley for a year ...

Will be interested to know where he is heading?

And whether st auggies remains as strong rugby wise, post Cleary... Time will tell

Maybe they're employing high quality coaches to improve the boys already at the school, rather than recruiting star players?

Schoolboy footy if definitely great entertainment for value, its unfortunate that the quality of rugby in the CAS isn't the quality of the GPS. Although saying that the CAS teams have come close to some of the GPS second string line ups.

Stuart Meade would be great if SGS wants a quality headmaster ... With an interest in rugby as part of education

Then again he is probably happy at hale ... And go to see hale with a current wallaby
