The Xerox Lions Absa Currie Cup team will be on leave for the next four weeks, and will being training for the 2009 Vodacom Super 14 in mid November, where the new players will join the team.

The Lions will be a much more settled and experiensed lot to this years class and Janus Labuschagne already back in their ranks. They will produce a powerfull pack , make no mistake.

Stormers
The Lions strongpoint always being one of the Stormers short comings, tight 5. Heres hoping that Fondse, Bekker , Mujatsi , Moller and Blaauw will grow just as much as they show in the past year. Add youngsters JC Kritzinger (TH), & Andries Fourie (hooker), veteran AJ Venter & Andries Human and I am pretty confident that we'll have more then anoth debt to have a solid tight 5. Loosies a plenty and watch out for the new name Ralp Koster now picked for the BaaBaas. Also waiting down the wings to make a mark is Pieter Myburgh. Pieter Louw and Schalk and hopeful we wont see Luke Watson in a Stormers jersey. Scrumhalfs to many in this area and surely Bolla will have to retire or just go to a small province. Young kids on the block already showed their worth the Paarl Gimmie duo of Marnus Hugo for Boland and Dewaldt Duvenhage for WP, add the Boishaaier Conrad Hoffmann and Januarie will have to pull socks to keep the jersey. Grant will be 10 but I'd like to see the Boland 10 and x Matie Elgar Watts in Stormers clothing. Will not be surprised if he get picked for the Bokke soon. Midfield we have Jean, Bobo, des Fountain and youngsters Newman & PJ Vermeulen. Wings Chavangha, Joe Pieterse sure made a impact towards the end of the season and the veteran Wylie Human. Full Backs Jantjes & Percy. The best in the west.

Cheetahs
Myself expect this Cheetah team to grow yearly now simply because they got their academy going and with Grey Bloem a sound platform of talent. Thde only loss I know of is Hennie Daniller going but they add their Boland players like in the past with Denwill Demas & veteran Piet van Zyl. Exciting new youngsters will come through their ranks like Pietersen, the Ebersohn Twins, exct.

Will post on the Brutes & Sharks after the CC final but not to many movement in their ranks, one or two but surely the giants in our provinces at the moment

Who are the Lions Flyhalf options? That's what screwed them in the CC. Strydom is useless and Rose is all over the show. Without a decent 10 they are always going to prop up the bottom of the S14 ladder. Is there any youngster in that squad who could save them?

Who are the Stormers LH props? That's where your biggest problem was last year. Harris is adequate, nothing more, and once he got injured you were farked.

I'm sure the Cheetahs are happy Daniller is gone. He is a big lumbering idiot.

On that list of them I saw two youngster 10s, Jody Rose, Earls young brother and Andre Smit a SA Schools & x Paarl Gimmie who I know in person. They need Petoors back. Smithers is a lighties but very talented and nippie kind of flyhalf but still a year younger to Jody Rose. Myself expected Jody to be there by now but look like he havent produce via the levels.

JD Moller & Wikus Blaauw. JD still injured after the S14 but surely he was full value. Blaauw the SuidWester who klapped that Aussie on the plane and came through Boland ranks. He more then show his worth to outplay Harris and stood his ground nicely in the CC.

Thats one talent from Gim that never have played to his talent. Interesting his little brother now in WP U19 team as a 8 and captain.

Did Ruan Smith get picked up by an Academy or anything Parl?
Yep WeePee's one in Stellenbosch. He plays saturday from the bench for WeePee against the Sharks in the U19 final. Quite a achievement in SA. He & his twin brother will join there.

Here you go, this will be his home next year.
http://www.wpri.co.za/

Nick Mallet started this one up two years ago. WP CravenWeek lot go there with a contract but the others have to pay R80,000 per annum if not invited. Make more sense for a youngster now out of school to go rather study a career also in Stellenbosch at Maties. That will cost you R40,000 , acomodation included.

Still feel for the amount of rugby talent running around here there is lots of talent missing the professional boat and easy and cheap prew for poachers. Many of them will make any Craven Week side on merit and easy to grab.

Time for a bit updating. Jaco van Schalkwyk off to Italia. He was a real SA journeyman. learn his trade at Paarl Boishaai (myself played against his dad, when we were young), went through WeePee youth teams, then Cheetahs and had a bit of Italia taste, to the Lions and now back to Italia.

Of the Brute & Guppies teams that played in the final it look like the Brutes will lose Wikus van Heerden & Jandre Kruger. Guppies will lose Michalak & Barrit.

Oh and Luke Watson is busy to finalise his move to the Brutes. :fishing

Was trying to draw your attention. :lmao:

Think its a turksvy for Rassie. Have no idea , but can only imagen guys like Schalk Burger , Jean de Viliers & AJ Venter will tell him something. Think his soutie buddies is getting smaller by the day at weepee and look like he is heading to the corner there also. Think he need more prayers to be honest.

latest on the Stormers sick & lazy lot.
Stormers site
Moller says that having depth at prop allows the players to put pressure on one another. ?Wicus toured with us in the Super 14 earlier this year and even though he didn?t play on tour, working together helps us learn from each other, which is great for the team.?

The prop?s shoulder reconstruction put him out of any physical activity for almost two months. ?I had to start from scratch,? said Moller of his conditioning. ?It?s hard work, and the thing is that you want to make sure after such a long lay-off that you take the opportunity and you come back stronger than you were before the injury.?

?I worked very closely with Steph du Toit on the conditioning, Lize looks after me on the physio side and then also Johan van Wyk on the rehabilitation. It has been a lot of work, but we?re a great team! All the injured guys train together ? so we keep each other motivated. It really is hard work and there is still work to be done, but we?re on track and it will be worth it in the long run.?

Team mates Pieter Myburgh (Looseforward), Dylan Des Fountain (Centre), Willem de Waal (Flyhalf), AJ Venter (Utility Forward), Gcobani Bobo (Centre) and Conrad Hoffmann (Scrumhalf) are all progressing well with their respective rehabilitation programmes.

If I look at the SA squad myself cant see the Lions & Cheetahs going better in 2009. But I can promise the Bulls, Sharks & Stormers will be serious semi contenders this time around. All three of them will base their Springbok players. Surely the Stormers will go one better. last year they come as close as can to a semi spot. Rassie add some real experiense with the additions of Percy, Willem de Waal & AJ Venter. Springbok players like Jantjes, Jean, Januarie, Schalk, Bekker & Mujatsi sure did a stepup as players from a year back. Now adding some class with Duanne Vermeulen and other youngsters to make a stepup like Lobberts, Andre Fourie, Wicus Blaauw & Fondse you have quite a different Stormers outlook to this year. Their fixture list is also better with easier home games and the difficulter ones away. You here absolutely nothing from this lot, no one even know the current squad practising and thats the way Rassie do his thing. If they win their first lot of rounds and go in decent shape into their tour, well they will be able to get through that difficult away teams with some victories and will not be easy to beat like they showed this year. The Bulls will be a much better outfit to this year and took some time to get to grips to the ELVs. They are already busy and have currently a squad of 53
Fullbacks: Zane Kirchner, Tiger Mangweni.

Wings: Akona Ndungane, John Mametsa, Bryan Habana, Gerhard van den Heever, Rocco Jansen.

Centres: JP Nel, Marius Delport, Stefan Dippenaar, Gerhard van der Merwe, Jaco Pretorius, Wynand Olivier, Wayne Julies, Stefan Watermeyer, Ruan Boshoff.

Flyhalves: Morn? Steyn, Burton Francis, Francois Brummer, Marnitz Boshoff.

Scrumhalves: Fourie du Preez, Heini Adams, Francois Hougaard, JP Joubert.

Loose forwards: Pierre Spies, Dewald Potgieter, Gerrit-Jan van Velze, Pedrie Wannenburg, Dries van Schalkwyk, Okkie Kruger, Deon Stegmann, Jacques Burger.

Locks: Victor Matfield, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Fudge Mabeta, Bakkies Botha, Danie Rossouw, Bosman Grobler, Ruan van Jaarsveld, Willem Serfontein, B?rend Botha.

Props: Rayno Gerber, Werner Kruger, Ruan Vermeulen, Frik Kirsten, Gurthr? Steenkamp, Jaco Engels, Dean Greyling, Corne Fourie.

Hookers: Chiliboy Ralepelle, Derick Ku?n, Bandise Maku, Henri Bantjes.

If you look through this squad I am pretty sure they are much stronger when they win the compo. Some strong Bok beef and a host of SA U20 talent from 2008 in that lot. They have real debt.

The Sharks havent started because they have so many Bokke and youngsters. They coming off a CC win and will be much stronger then in 2008. The Bokke young stars like Steyn, Pienaar, JP, Beast, Bismarck & Kankowski will be much more experiense to a year back plus they will have John Smit in their ranks.

I can promise you that our lot will be much better opposition to 2008, specially our own big 3.
