just thinking, the big games of the weekend....

Uruguay defeated Kazakhstan 44-7

Romania beat Tunisia 56-13

which leaves romania to play uruguay for the final playoff spot, who rates who or if you dont wanna rate, who do you wanna win?

me personally i think romania, cause of a strong history and an ability to help build a rugby culture in the rapidly developing eastern european unions

Think Romania will win. Would be a great forwards tussle though as Uruguay use the same scrummaging system as the Argies.

yeh i wanted kazhakstan to make it simply because their jersey is one of my favourites (which i have) and i woulda been able to wear it to the pub with people associating it without borat

Romania for me, especially because we don't need another team in blue at the RWC. And partly because of that knobjockey in the Uruguay team at the Soccer WC and his handball shenanigans.

Would like to see Romania there. They gave us a tough 1st half in the 95 RWC.

I'm so pissed Tunisia qualified through instead of the more deserving mad Moroccans, who crushed them recently 23-6. Poor Morocco. They always seem to fall at the last hurdle and have been so unlucky. It'd be wonderful to see them make it to the big show.

William Webb Ellis

Here's some history on Bill.
William was born in Salford, Lancashire, though he said he was born in Manchester in an 1851 census. He was the son of James Ellis, an officer in the Dragoon Guards and Ann Webb. After her husband was killed in 1812 during a battle, Mrs Ellis decided to move to Rugby, Warwickshire so that William and his older brother Thomas could receive a good education at Rugby School, living within 10 miles of the school meant she paid no fees for the boys. William attended the school from 1816 to 1825 and he was recorded as a good scholar and cricketer. The incident where Webb Ellis picked up and ran with the ball in his arms during a football match is supposed to have happened in the latter half of 1823.

After leaving Rugby he went to Oxford University in 1826. Here he played cricket for Brasenose College, Oxford. He entered the Church and became chaplain of St George's, Albemarle Street, London and then rector of St Clement Danes in The Strand. In 1855 he became rector of Laver Magdalene in Essex. He died in the south of France in 1872 in the town of Menton on the French Riviera near the Italian border. He spent the last six months of his life trying to recover from TB in the dryer conditions by the Mediterranean. His grave at Menton was rediscovered by Ross McWhirter in 1958 and has since been renovated. The actual site is plot 957 in le cimetiére du Vieux Château à Menton in the Alpes-Maritimes.

With Bill buried in Frogland, it is perhaps no wonder that The Darkness always struggle against the Tricolours in RWC matches.:lmao:

Getting back to topic, my money is on the Romanian Oaks for the last Slot.

It would be good to see Morocco is a WC as well because they could viably become a decent rugby playing Nation if they had some sides in the lower French or Currie Cup Divisions and worked their way up.

Oh well.

It has got to be Romania. Last world cup their forward pack looked like one of the most committed at the tournament, only the results didn't show it.

Romania will win. Uruguay will put a fight and could roll them but its highly unlikely. Re: Tunisia and Morroco. Morroco had their chances through the Africa Cup. They failed. Tunisia was the form African team behind Namibia. They pushed the Namibians aswell. No other team really got close ( well, if you leave out Ivory Coast's draw with Namibia in the first leg of the Semi's) but Tunisia provided the only resistence of note.

Ahh spewing, I am moving to Motevideo just after they play the leg there. Looking forward to hopefully playing a few games when there - I just wont be going on any end of season trips......

10+ years ago Romania.
1-10 years ago Uruguay.

Today could go either way, but I've got to go with Romania. They have been rebuilding hard since their downfall. Hopefully, they will be back to Europe's 7ths team in good time. Though I feel the Russians will pass them and Romania within a decade.

Russia have arguably already overtaken Romania. Their senior side beat them in the ENC1 and the Russians recently overcame them in Belgium in a tournament used for qualification for next years Junior World Rugby Trophy. In fact the Romanians should be wary of the hosts of that particular tournamnet. They have been rapidly improving both in the junior and senior ranks of late backed by an ambitious Union.

Yes, you're. I forgot they already surpassed Romania in qual. I've been telling my American rugby friends this. The North Americans have been twiddling their thumbs for 20+ years while the Ruskies have worked hard. You would have to guess both Russia and Georgia will be competitively (if not infrastructure wise) 'tier 2' nations within a world cup or two.

IRB #19 vs IRB # 22.

No change to the rankings as a result of the victory by the Romantics.

Welcome to RWC 11. Draw is now finalised.

Sledging and wanging in proper can now begin.

The Yanks went toe to toe with a full strength Georgia last night only losing in the 9th minute of overtime. They are progressing themselves. Its the Canadians that are seriously beginning to stagnate from the looks of it.

Is Canada stagnating?

They've just had their 2nd season of the best national tournament set-up they've seen (the Canadian part of the Americas Rugby Championship) and they beat a France A featuring players like Julien Dupuy early this year.

I'm not saying they aren't, perhaps you are insinuating at grass route level, but it certainly would appear quite the opposite.

Actually from what i heard, some of the funding from the XV man game has been directed into 7's in Canada

For a country like Canada where simply getting a player playing some form of professional rugby is the target, I don't see this as a HUGE issue.
