I still think they choked big time, only luck and the home ground advantage got them through. They'll never win it off home soil! 24 more years boys! :fishing

Really? I think France choked. Didn't respect the AB lineout on their line (oh, the arrogance of it), chose to attack the thing, leaving no organised defence in front of The Myth who becomes an instant all-time great by trotting over unopposed. Basic error - France were out-coached and only brought passion, which was never going to be enough on this occasion.

For the record, Piri Weepu was a doubtful starter after suffering an injury during the warm up. Probably explains why he performed below par and also had trouble landing kicks.

I heard he had something lodged in his oesophagus and he nearly....

couldn't breathe properly

Has anyone had the heart to tell the kiwis, now that they have drunk from bill, that the whole of eastern Australia has urinated in that cup twice since they last saw it......

Shame on your comments-what an unsportsman behaviour when I thought Aussies were decent people. Well I was wrong!

Give it a rest. You're among the worst trolls on here. I'm frankly amazed you've dodged the ban hammer for so long.

I doubt the AB's would care who had pissed in it at the moment. Here''s a bit of intrigue for you. Somebody posted that Mc Caw didn't acknowledge the French team following the game, and that there wasn't the usual post game courtesies.Reports have surfaced that an AB received a good going over in the eye area.

Seen that - Eales threatened to take the Wobs off in 1999 because of that. The following photo shows some good will...but its in the bottom right hand corner.
Colin Meads did a far worse thing and he is revered in NZ.

Story in today's NZ herald on the same:

The French rugby captain's role in an alleged eye-gouging incident against All Blacks counterpart Richie McCaw during Sunday's final has been questioned by commentator Keith Quinn.

Quinn told Radio New Zealand there was an attempt to gouge the All Blacks captain's eye during a ruck towards the end of the match and Thierry Dusautoir, who was last night named International Rugby Board Player of the Year, offered no condolences.

"There was an incident late in the World Cup final (about) which more detail may emerge. He was very close to an incident in the ruck in which there was an attempt to eye-gouge the New Zealand captain Richie McCaw," he told Radio New Zealand.

"It was clearly seen on TV. McCaw needed attention from medical staff."

Mr Quinn said it wasn't clear in the video whether Dusautoir was responsible for the eye-gouging, but said the French captain was "right there".

He said his information about the event came from "within the New Zealand camp".

"Dusotoir was right there but didn't attempt to offer any concern about about McCaw's condition."

He thought the incident explained why New Zealand and French players didn't embrace at the end of the game, and why there was little or no mention about the French team in the speeches after the final.

Mr Quinn is calling for more information about the alleged incident.

"I think more needs to be investigated about the incident. The illustrious awarded player of the year surely involves elements of fair play."

Former All Black captain Stu Wilson said more details would emerge if the alleged incident happened but Dusautoir was a worthy winner of the player of the year award.

"This incident, if there is an incident, and there's merit in bringing it up, will surface and then he'll get banged for it," he told Radio New Zealand.

"But you can't take that one incident into the award which was taken over a season."

Having watched the replay of the kick at 42 minutes - I'm fairly certain it went over - France Wins 10, NZ 8
Can we get some footage posted?

Actually Muttonbird, I am pretty sure that an AB (I think Read) takes out a French defender (I think Harinoraquy) on the inside which leaves the hole for Woodcock to stroll through. It is in the bottom of the screen in the replys so I must admit I have had trouble working out to what extent he was obstructed.

I want to be clear - I don't have a huge problem with that - illegal blocking happens all the time in line outs by all teams. I thought it was a well executed move, that included playing the odds with the ref missing obstruction (which supports what you are saying about being better coached), but I don't think it was simply a case of the French not defending the space and saying it was a basic error on their part.

I'm sure Woodcock doesn't care either way though.
