I am a Victorian born, AFL following female and so am a relative newcomer when it comes to Rugby. However in the last couple of years I have grown to like the game more and more. Living in Melbourne though, I'm finding it very hard to get any information about games, players etc and also don't know anyone who even follows rugby in this town! I was wondering if anyone knew a pub (or pubs) where they show the games and people who actually follow rugby go to watch them? I don't have foxtel so I thought it would be good to go have a drink and watch the next game between the Wallabies and All-Blacks with some like-minded people. So if anyone knows somewhere like this can you please let me know, Thanks!

Lindy, welcome to the site. Awesome to have you. I am sure you will get the specific details on the pubs by some of our othe fans down your way. In the mean time keep coming back and chatting away, whilst also reviewing the main Blog site and you should get all the information you need.

Hi Lindy and welcome.

Best place in Melbourne is the Turf Bar on the corner of Bourke and Queen Streets. They have it on every screen with the sound. Great atmosphere too.

if you got facebook, then theres a page, 'super15 rebels', which is mostly passionate melbourne rugby fans who are supporting the super15 bid, they could probably offer a bit more info then we can

Thanks for welcoming me! I was afraid I might not be welcome as I still don't know everything about the game and may ask some 'dumb' questions from time to time. Thanks for the info about the blog, turf bar and the facebook page, I'll check out the page and see if they can suggest anywhere as well. My friend and I were holidaying in Byron Bay a few weeks ago and actually had dinner with a few of the wallabies!!! She didn't really know who they were but I was pretty excited about it!

Cheers,
Lindy

We sat down to have dinner at a table next to them (Drew M, Berrick B, Adam AC, Stephen M, Peter L) and they invited us to join them, so how could we refuse??!! Unfortunately my friend still couldn't care less about Rugby but she enjoyed their company!

Did Drew and Berrick spend a lot of time talking about hair products? ;)

Nah, Stephen Moore took care of that.

Just got this from the Melbourne Rebels facebook team

Subject: The time has come for the Rebels!

We will know by the end of today whether or not Melbourne gets the 15th Franchise, or alternatively, it will go to arbitration, and the announcement will be delayed by a week or so.

With that said, I don't think any possible delays should delay as from celebrating! To all those who have confirmed their attendance for tonight, I'll see you at Turf Bar in approximately 2.5 hours. Until then, keep your fingers crossed!!

Neville.

It would be worth having a beer with Lindy just to get the full story.

I wonder if JON has considered this as a marketing strategy? To get the boys out into the community. Literally.

I'm guessing you all think Drew and Berrick are pretty boys??!! There was definitely no talk of hair products from them or Stephen. If I was to have a drink and share the story (at the risk of sounding like a princess) it would have to be over a champagne for me and not beer!

Thanks Gagger for the heads up from the Rebels facebook page- I couldn't go the other night but I might find out if some of them will be watching the game next Saturday at the Turf Bar. I might not look like such a loner if there was some people to meet there!

Will sparkling wine do? Just asking on behalf of Scarfie. ;)
