Reds 2019

My concern is neither Hockings or Blyth look like bringing much impact from the bench. Still developing a bit slower than Rodda and Tui did. Not enough HP.

Yep. I’m happy with both Rodda and Tui. Moimoi is of interest but has a long way to go. Den Hoedt and Nasser look to be making up numbers. Hockings and Blyth need more than time and I haven’t really noticed Puli’uvea.

None of them look ready for injury cover let alone the Reds bench.

Nasser is a prop.

Agree that neither Hockings or Blythe are where we want them. I actually think they we’re both better in last years NRC.

Honestly, I wouldn’t bank on Tui being around next year. Not that I have heard anything but it’s just something to be prepared for.

Perhaps we should try to bring Darcy Swain or Trevor Hosea home.

Darcy Swain gets huge wraps in Canberra and Trevor Hosea is probably 3 or so years away from being Super Rugby ready

Who is the lock I am missing from Country?

I thought I read he was pretty keen to go back to Sydney. If he (and perese) want out, I cannot possibly see how it fits Thorns narrative of culture first, by forcing them to stay. I'd give Skelton a go if he wants a WC tilt!

Hell yes to big Will.

Leave us Tahs supporters with something.

This Reds thread is a bit negative at times for a team with nearly the best scrum in the comp, a well balanced pack, and some rising stars in the backline (Petaia and Daugunu). I’d love the Tahs to have the balanced squad QLD is assembling.

Nasser is Brisbane City.

Country's locks have been Hocking and Blythe with a cameo from Puli'uvea.

City have used Den Hoedt, Morrey, Korczyk, Moimoi and Railala. None of whom are Super standard locks I don't think.

Pretty sure Jayden Ngamanu is still contracted, Perese is until the end of 2019 and Brandon Paenga-Amosa is around the traps so I assume he's there again next year.

Efi Ma'afu is the 3rd string hooker while Fraser McReight is the 2nd string openside flanker while those other fellas will form part of the academy.

Prettu sure they are sort of bringing back the 'Emerging Players Squad' but it's called the Reds Academy these days with Tony McGahan the coach.

Previously after the age of 20 you were no longer part of the academy but they've changed it for the better to include 20,21,22,23 year olds as well so that we can have older, more Super Rugby ready 'contracted' players.

Can we confirm Petaia contract status?

He was promoted to reds from club rugby but I never saw a press release he was signed for 2019

Very happy with that, he's an excellent coach and should work well with Thorn. Coaching team really shaping up well now, getting experience and proven ability to backup Thorn. I don't hate the McGahan-Carozza academy setup they've mentioned either. McGahan may not have quite cut it as a super rugby head coach but getting someone in the role that has significant exposure to the proffesional game should be a big plus for talent identification and development. Hell, just the fact that we've managed to move a coach into a different role without burning a bridge or having to shell out for a pay out is a win.

If we've gotten here as a result of Kafer's coaching advisory panel then RA might just be due for some credit. Mind-boggling.

Peter Ryan is a good coach of individuals when it comes to defence; he can get any man to tackle and also understands positioning really well. His defensive systems have been a bit weird for the past few years, with a lot of the success at the Brumbies coming from high-quality cover-defendign tackles instead of any obvious structure. I hope he turns a corner there and gives you guys a defence to be proud of.
