Damian Marsh left to join Fiji test team, who else is gone from the S&C department?

Thorn only become more involved in the S&C alongside Sean in June after the U20s and once Marsh gave notice, Marsh was allowed to leave early to join Fiji for the June test series.

I've now read the whole court case ruling.

Summary:

(a) The QRU's high-level administration of items such as contracts, employment matters etc with someone of Connolly's remuneration level etc was simply dreadful and both McCall and Carmicheal come out particularly badly in this regard

(b) These latter two persons were literally flailing around in May 2015 as they realised just how poor the Reds' performance had become. They sought an instant PR benefit in drafting Connolly in to 'do something to assist the Reds'. Graham objected vehemently but was overruled.

(c) The press release re Connolly's arrival was literally drafted before he'd even been properly retained. The final actual public press release clearly stated that Connolly would be retained right through the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

(d) Connolly made the commitment to the Reds for this job, started urgently, was assured (as the Judge found) by McCall up-front of a contract right through the end of the 2016 season....and then when the infamous Frawley/Robinson 'review of the Reds' HPU and HP practices' recommended Connolly be terminated in July 2015 (but Graham retained, of course) he was terminated then and there and Carmichael tried to argue that the whole arrangement had been subject to immediate termination with short notice only even though such was never properly documented with Connolly.

(e) The Judge's findings were unequivocal and in all respects supported Connolly's core contention that he was contracted for two full seasons and where the QRU improperly repudiated that contract after agreeing to it in May 2015.

(f) The enduring inference when reading the whole ruling is that the QRU's managerial culture (at least in 2015) was a decayed combination of the chaotic, the poorly governed, and in some respects, the dishonest and the disreputable.

This same QRU that is propping Clyne's ARU in a self preservation strategy.

Great.

"Senior Assistant Coach". Almost, but not quite, as bad as, "Co Interim Head Coach".

I'm not even luke warm. Could someone who knows TT and Stiles better than me (not hard) want to muse on why this would be a good thing?

TT has just been announced as being on board for 2018. Senior Assistant Coach. The article is a little vague on his actual role and I can only assume he'd be looking at the overall Reds program and how to improve it to get better performance. There are references to him doing that type of stuff in his past.

Probably something like this: "... dealing with the totality of the strength and conditioning, the medical, the rugby side of things, strategy, the review, preview of the game itself and also the individuals."

He left the role in Melbourne at the end of the 2017 Super Rugby season, where he finished as the longest-serving and most successful coach in the club’s history.

He’s someone who brings the right attitude and experience

with a track record of improving the programs he has been a part of

All you need to have for a job at the QRU is a positive attitude and spent some time in and around rugby? Results obviously don't matter nor does any form of improvement!

There was conflict between the coaching staff and S&C staff all year.
Ballard left early, Marsh as soon as he could and a few other lower level guys recently.

Thorn was running extras all pre-season and clearly would have caused issues for a knowledgeable, qualified and experienced S&C staff the organisation actively went and recruited.

Thinker, that sucks about the personality issues, do we have any s&c people left?

Stiles is arrogant, the QRU board is arrogant. In the case of the latter arrogance has blinded them to their own incompetence, and it looks like the former might be heading that way as well.

Experienced coaches are only useful if their experience is in how to solve the problems a team or organization faces.

Our problems are poor to average recruitment, very poor defence, poor to average fitness and conditioning and probably (though it is hard to tell) poor to average communication and leadership from coaches to players.

The priorities should therefore be;
1. Sack Cordingley. He adds nothing.
2. Recruit a good defense coach to work with and mentor Thorn in this space. TT is not this based on recent evidence. A Matt Taylor, in the HC role (or promised as next in line) if necessary (or another coach working abroad, particularly in England).
3. A LEADER for the performance department. A really experienced professional who can come in bring with him some of his own staff if required. If Thorn wants to be involved so be it but it MUST be under the guidance of a serious pro. The key is that the HC must respect and believe in him to make the performance and fitness decisions for the players. A new physio team may also be required.
4. Someone with organizational and sports psychology training to be involved in improving communication and leadership in the coaching staff and player leaders.

Where does TT fit into that?

The hiring of another old QLD rugby man, just because he wants to be back in Brisbane and could see the writing on the wall in Melbourne sickens me.

Thanks TOCC, just checked my email and I have it too. Don't see the full silver membership I have had for the last 14 years, it is only listed in those half memberships. I'll have to ring them.

I can't see us with more than 10k members in 2018. One good thing about being a reds member is that it is easy to get a good park at the bus station. They should use that in their advertising. Pity the rugby is so shit :(

When I see the Broncos, I park streets away.

Media reports continue tonight that Stiles will soon be booted and replaced for 2018 with:

Thorn (HC), McGahan (Snr Asst Coach), Mooney (AC).

You know it makes sense.

It'd be the dumbest thing that's happened in Australian rugby for at least a few days

Dumb and Australian rugby seem to go hand in hand these days...

New motto could be "plumbing new depths of stupidity every day"

If that is the case then they will be ruining a potential good future coach by throwing him in the deep end - but as I said above, it would be in line with the motto...

Ballymore has been possessed by madness (of many and varied kinds) since that day in April 2012 when R Graham was announced as Reds HC-to-be.

There is zero evidence that sanity has returned to the bunkers of Ballymore from that day to this.

Hard to see how the reds could arrive at a decision to appoint an inexperienced head coach at this point in time.

It's imperative that the reds have some quality success next season. Rolling the die again for the head coaching role would likely end the same way.

Sounds like a bit of scuttlebutt to me. There's no way adults in those positions could make such a decision.

I see Kafer is earning his salary. This has to have his fingerprints on it.
