If he's on a low value Super Rugby contract is it really much of a risk?

Money wise? no there is little risk. But squad spots are finite and the risk is that he may be less likely to add something positive than a winger plucked from the NRC or elsewhere.

It's not like he was even a particularly dominant schoolboy player. It's a stupid, premature signing that makes no sense based on the fact that there is an NRC upcoming and we literally had only the one outside back spot to fill. What the hell was the rush?

Wow - Maranta looks like a winger who knows how to use his feet rather than another GPS prodigy we have who just runs at the opposition! I'll call that a decent improvement already.

Anyone Else you say, the son of Who Else & Or Else?
His grandfather, Where Else was a great sportsman until he met What Else and took to gambling.

That could well be the single-worst dad joke of all time.

It's up there in "pull the finger" and "Hi Hungry, I'm dad" territory.

Let's not forget Chris Sautia played an incredible hand in Souths' finals push in 2015. If not for him, Souths don't win and he certainly didn't accomplish that by fluke.

It wouldn't have surprised me if he had another lower body injury that he concealed because he knew another injury would be the end of his Reds career. He played through the pain, but couldn't step off his right, for example. His best hope was to just run over people and look to offload which didn't work.

Agree with the bit about the Magpies finals run, CFS was so damaging in attack and inspirational in that way that rep players can often be to their club teammates. As for running over the top of players, he has been trying to do that at the Reds since he was 18 without success.

Finally getting excited again about the Reds 2017 season.
Been a few years.
Lets hope I'm not to early in saying this, but I confident Stiles will get the best out of these lads and will be a well improved season.

Front row still very good.

Lukhan Tui is raw talent. Just needs to be harnessed.

The young halves looked promising.

Alex Gibbon really excites me and in my eyes it'd be a shame we went maranta over him

Similarly Perese from Qld country.

Tom Banks for Qld country also firming as a fullback option for the Reds as I get the feeling we will be seeing less and less of hunt (injury wise)

Perese is still on the books with the Reds for this coming season, right? If we took one of the most maligned backs in the NRL over keeping Perese I'll be a bit upset.

Glad to hear Lukhan is still building in the right direction. He's impressed me a lot up to this point, adjusting very well to higher level play as such a young guy.

Perese was signed for 2 or 3 years I think, he has a really bright future IMO, his running technique, balance and strength in contact is as good as any young back the Reds have signed in years.

Like Reg said, Luckhan is a raw talent, physically he has a lot of potential, a big aggressive ball runner who takes a bit to bring down, but some of his technical work still needs a lot of work, and he needs to improve his discipline, the NRC will be perfect for him to develop.

Ready is a good hooker, but needs to work on his defence, he missed a few straightforward tackles through poor technique. Gunn is good, but certainly no Gill.

Perese's balance in contact is freakish and something that I don't think can really be "taught". Very excited to see how he goes at the next level.

Quade Coopers signing to be made offical this week, returning to the Reds in 2017 a decade after he first debut'd.

IT’S official. Quade Cooper is finally to be unveiled as the prized signing to revive the pulse of the Queensland Reds for the next three seasons.
The announcement, to be made by Wednesday, will be a huge confidence boost for a club which has been a non-factor in Super Rugby for three seasons.

No mention on Reds website, I wonder if the are upset at the leak?

I hope his knee is ok

Presuming teat Cheika continues the two 10's experiment, it's a good time to be announcing Quade's Red signing - just before the SA game.

I'm tempted to fly up for it.

@Reg - what are your concerns with the Hunt injury? It does seem to be dragging, are there thoughts of something longer term?

Anyone know what the deal with Izaia Perese is? Is he under contract, EPS, something like that? Was seriously impressed with him against Canberra yesterday - looks similar to a young JOC (James O'Connor).

Edit - Just saw it's been covered above. Glad he's been signed up, he's the sort of kid who should be getting Super game time sooner rather than later. Let him play 12 or 13, settle in there, and he'll be a serious player you'd think.

Just that mate. I've heard nothing more and it could be nothing more than what an extended off-season could fix. But even if he get's over this, he seems to be breaking down more of late. We just don't have back up at fullback at the moment.

He was awesome in the first few rounds last year, had it not been for the injury I reckon he would have been capped for the reds ahead laloifi, Tuttle and banks this year.

Watch QLD Country vs Sydney Stars 2015 match if you want to see a great game by Perese, did his knee not long after and disappointingly missed the JWC, but even then he was a standout and believe he was only 18yrs old at the time.. Still don't want to talk him up too much, haven't seen too much of him on defence or passing/kicking the ball.
