It's interesting that despite the amount of missed tackles by the Brumbies last week their defence was still overall excellent.......

When you look at the stats the missed tackles are actually spread around pretty evenly for 1-2 for nearly every player......

So while the Brumbies themselves would be looking at those numbers and wouldn't be happy, I don't think it's their biggest concern....... goal kicking however........

Meanwhile the Rebels' tackle count was marginally better than the Brumbies last week, however, there were a few players that missed a LOT of tackles......

It would seem to me that if you can name your team really early in the week it is a bit of a show of confidence and power (like the Stormers did a day or so ago).

It portrays an air of surety and confidence that you know who your team is and you're not fluffing around trying to pick between players or see whether someone is going to recover from an injury in time.

The entire strategy behind not naming the team is that they know but nobody else does. Doesn't let the opposition prepare.

On the downside, you look like you don't know and opposition will be more ready to adapt.

Highlanders, so he's behind Aaron Smith but appears to be the only other named Halfback in their roster.

They should have given him a run in the last five minutes last week. If anyone deserved their own round of applause from the crowd by coming off early after a strong game it was Ged.

I thought that at the game but the reality was with a game in the balance and Ged playing out of his skin, you had to leave him on.

Looking through the scoresheet for the minutes when points were scored, you are completely right.

After 7 pints I felt a lot more confident about the Rebels hanging on for the win despite the close scoreline. I did have the sense of mind to shout down the people around me saying that the Rebels should go for a fourth try when they were up by 4 points with 5 minutes to go and JOC (James O'Connor) kicked the penalty goal. At that point, putting yourself 7 points up was an absolute no brainer.

I'm a bit bemused by those that expected the first round game to be a classic with sublime skills on show. The Rebels and Force are clearly not world-beaters, and when you add a layer of rust from the off-season and some brand new conbinations in match pressure conditions, you are not really going to get a game for the ages.

Bad decisions, loose ball carrying and way too much indiscipline were the real features of the Rebels last Friday night.

I might be crazy, but I actually like the Sidey-Inman combo. I think it will work a treat once it clicks.

I think Kingi on the wing was a revelation; he was my MOM by a country mile.

Pyle and Jones worked well, and Pyle is twice the man he used to be. We might see some real exciting stuff from the big man this year.

Robinson has been working on his throws and his work at the breakdown over the summer. Pretty happy with his game.

I think Beale was either under-done or off his game; either way, too early to drag a proven game changer based on one game.

JOC (James O'Connor) is not 15 material. By that, I mean he seems to see himself as the line-breaking-fancy-dancing-try-scoring-make-something-happen guy. At 15, he really just needs to cut down the opposition attacking ball and reload/set up the team for the counter. His kicking for position was AWFUL! My missus (and everyone around me) got pretty bloody sick of me saying how much we missed Gerrard's boot.

Are the Rebels going to win the comp? No way. Will they make the finals? Unlikely.

Win a few more games away this year (as well as a high percentage at home) and really make a fight out of every game played, and they will have a pass mark from me for 2013.

His defence was a little average. That side of his game needs to improve. He was terrific in everything else he did though.
