This guy must be some kind of Hollywood player who everyone loves. He made the biggest mistake in the opening game againt the AB and then he wins the RUPA award? And Aussie player of the Year? He is so freaking brittle and vulnerable and I just can't believe the selectors chose him for V-C.

In the past games. Rocky's discipline has been questionable before he left for Leicester and came back a hero. We forgave and forgot about it. Dean's loyalty I question. Is he capable of selection gambles that could cost us the RWC in 2011 in New Zealand? Probably! I am a strong Wallaby supporter and if I coached the All Blacks, I would probably have OZ interests at best in my heart. That's just me.

Who else was available for selection to lead and VC?

Hear me out! With a loose head, I can make better observations and calls if I am not bound. A flanker can make better calls during a scrum than a hooker. But, that doesn't disqualify Stephen Moore. Stephen Moore should have been the Captain.

He can lead the pack to fish the ball. Before we figure out how to distribute the ball, lets get the ball first then distribute it. He will be a first choice hooker for a while thus no selection headache. Polota Nau shoud switch to prop. Screw Al Baxter!

The vice captain should be Digby Ioane. Giteau or Barnes have enough controling the ball at 10 and 12 iner-switchably.

Francis Fainifo, and Christian Lealifano should get a crack at Wallaby Jersey's. I hear Matt Tomua is doing well but his options are border-line great and stupid.

Rocky is an Automatic selection and Moore is not. Rocky is a "players player" so is Barnes and that is exactly what Deans was looking for.
As for Deans commitment what makes you question it? What has he done to lose your trust, besides lose games?

the RUPA award is more for off-field work.

What Oz player of the year award did he get?

The only thing against Moore being captain, is that it won't play for the full 80 because of the abilities of TPN. Plus it only took him until the UK tour to secure his starting spot.

Digby as vice captain? On what grounds????

Welcome to the board by the way.

Barnes is a good backline organiser in attack and defence, he seems to be a good option for a leadership role.

Welcome to G&GR.

Barnes is also a player others seem to follow and respect.

Moore is our second best hooker but our best lineout thrower (don't argue, it makes as much sense as "works 60% of the time, all the time").

Deans is the best coach in Australia.

George Smith is the greatest Wallaby of his generation and my favourite Wallaby of all time. Wrong thread? Sorry. It should be written on every thread, graffitied on every wall, carved into every stone.

Good on you Cutter - put it out there. This forum needs more passion.

For me the greatest ever Wallaby was Ken Catchpole.

But I digress also.

Good idea for a new thread. Not sure who my favourite is but George Smith would have to be up there.

As for the leadership question, I thought Barnes should have been the Reds captain last year, ahead of Horwill. Gives 100% on the field, great defender, good vision, and commands the respect of players and fans alike. His biggest issue however, is staying on the paddock.

And, welcome to the forum as well Wazza.

Not good for me. It would be too frustrating. I wouldn't be able to to explain to you young twerps how great Catchy was playing in those days behind an ordinary pack year after year and making seriously crap ball look like gold dust minute after minute.

If he could be playing now - and Gareth Edwards for Wales - how they would astound us all.

"That glass of red with lunch made you nostalgic dear?"

"Yes, dear heart. Pour me another."

Barnes hasn't played as VC yet has he? Give him a chance (although I was a bit underwhelmed by him last year)

Have a look at the highlight reels again Spook, Kafer highlighted 3 or 4 times last season where Barnes was realigning for better depth, taking the right options, throwing the money balls.

His biggest issue is his want to put his body on the line too much.

He's also got blonde hair and as yet hasn't broken into any apartments, fiddled with any Quokkas or skewered the wrong man's daughter

He might not have been down as captain last year, but we was definitely the leader. Reply when the ref asked Big Kev what he wanted to do after the lights went out in Auckland last year: "Hang on, I better ask Barnsey"

Fat, I just though he butchered too many passes when we were ready to hurt the opposition. In NZ and SA particularly. Was also injured a fair bit as well. Needs a big year.

I think there would have been less butchering if we could have played the same centres two weeks in a row last season.

Barnes is vice captain because Deans wanted a back to be involved in the leadership team.

I would have had either Horwill or Robinson as vc.

I suspect if Genia continues to play to his current standard for the next two seasons, he will become the vc. Barnes is just injured too much.

I suppose he wanted a back as VC. robinson is a long term option at captain as well.
