Queensland Reds 2025

Major Tom

Ward Prentice (10)
I listened to this - my immediate reaction was he was just yabbering - rather than it being what kept him out.

He didn't mention that he heard something from someone inside the reds. To me it just sounded like he was recalling that, that was the case last year - and maybe it was the reason he was out. Felt like he was trying to manufacture an angle without actually having anything to back it up.
Yeah, I agree. Seemed like he was trying to make something out of nothing tbh.

Potentially. It certainly seems like whoever his source is isn't the biggest Tom Lynagh fan in the world

And look - a lot of the mail from Joe Schmidt last year was that Turbo had a mystery injury - and there was definitely inference that he may have been malingering, so I can understand why Christy may be thinking along those lines. But he gave no evidence to support his thinking so felt like he was just throwing Lynagh under the bus.

Given that it seem likely that RA are ready to step in and take our HC, presumably who has time left in his contract - I presume someone is negotiating hard on release terms?

We took on a chunk of Rebels, who yes help our depth, but loose some players in the process. RA requested did they not that the Reds take up the cost, or some of it? I argued against it at the time.

I'm not at all happy about the likelihood of losing Les prematurely. Also the longer the conversation sits unresolved in the background, the less time the Reds will have to find an appropriate level replacement. I know it is old history, but how things concluded with Link surely still burns more Red fans than just myself.

Faessler suggesting a decision on McReights future could be in coming days, with Hanham confident he is positioned to retain him
Christy was saying on the ESPN podcast this week that most of the current negotiations are basically on a deadline for a week after the new coach signing, so around the end of the month. I think that was in reference to Gordon specifically, but it sounded like a wider policy, so I expect we'll see one way or the other for a lot of them. Or at let, anyone top flight not re-signed by early April is probably pretty unlikely.

also Reds new retro jersey for 2025… not as good as last years which was mint… but decent, unsure what year they actually played in this style, if ever.

To get another 3 years of Wilson and McReight is more than we could've hope for going forward. Deadset, rolled gold legends the pair of them and such a force multiplier having them together.

That they ever thought that 600k would be enough for one of the world’s best players in his position, when Tupou (who on durability and performance wouldn’t be top 4 in his) was crazy. They’re lucky to get him for 900, and he’s a lay down, true blue, deadset bloody legend for giving up over a million over the contract term to hopefully make these the best years of his career.

Go you good thing, nobody will begrudge you taking an enormous packet in 2028/9

Navy is such an easy colour to pair with chinos, jeans etc. so these will sell well I imagine.

It feels like the brief for this one was “we need a navy supporter jersey, but make it kinda Reds”.

I don’t mind it as a piece of general kit, but it doesn’t scream Reds to me.

Jorgenson who had never played a test and barely played super rugby got more.

Did he not get ~530k a year? Which is great wedge for an unproven 20yr old (and I agree it was overs) but also probably best to check your facts

In my (bias) opinion justified and not overs. We just can't afford to pay players what they are worth.
