Went out to watch Wests and Souths today - a very ordinary game of rugby! Both teams were sloppy and will need to improve significantly if they are to be competitive with the top teams.
It turned out to be a bit of a heart breaker for Wests having led the whole match until the last five minutes but having said that, Souths played all but 10-15 mins of the match with only 14 men after David Feao was given a red card for a tip tackle, so Wests really should have put them away.
Wests were fierce at the breakdown all day and that, together with Sam Greene's goal kicking was what kept them in the match. Unfortunately they are the only positives I can report for Wests. Their defence was poor and discipline in the last 15 minutes went out the window.
Souths looked better in attack than Wests but also dropped far too much ball to take advantage of the many opportunities they had. Souths scrum did really well to hold Wests with only seven men, although Wests did also concede two yellow cards in the match - one to Mick Lee and one to Peter Uebergang so that balanced the ledger a little.
Souths really need to find a goal kicker because they missed so many shots that it could have cost them today. As it was they were held up twice in the last ten minutes over West's line before Marius Botha scored the final try with the conversion successful from in front to win the match at the death.

Was down at the GPS vs Easts game yesterday, was a very entertaining game of footy from two sides very good sides. In the set piece I thought it was a split decision with Easts probably getting the better of GPS at scrum time with Paraka particularly dominant. GPS controlled line out time with the young Toolis twins creating all sorts of headaches for the Tigers both offensively and defensively in the air. Both lads are playing some outstanding footy at the moment and hopefully as their bodies mature and add a bit of bulk to their frames they may get a chance at the next level.
Where Jeeps, got the better of the Tigers in the engine room was when the Gallopers forwards work with their ball carries whether it was in tight or through a little bit of tipping before the line in tandem with their backs, in my opinion that is where the game was won with the sometimes penalty prone Liam Ferguson turning back the clock with a fine all round display.
I thought Matty Brandon had a fairly quiet game today by his standards but he still managed to put the dangerous Toby White through some holes that if it not were for some desperate GPS covering defence would have scored. If White is the best 13 in Premier rugby than young Kerevi, the official man of the match has the potential to be as good or better judging from his performance today. I don't think he is quite up to Toby's level yet but the flashes of brilliance he showed today especially via the no look flick pass that set up the sweeping Ferguson try was freakish, and hints at some good things to come in the future by talented Fijian.
The Easts cause was not helped with the mixed bag Toua produced as well as Seuteni's injury sustained by an alleged shoulder charge by GPS prop P.Kite, that ultimately cost Kite 10 in the bin and Seuteni sitting out a crucial time in the first half just as Easts were beginning to claw their way back into the match.
Although I thought GPS were better today in general play, there is still a disjoint at 9 with Grasso for mine. I think he has some good tools no doubt, I just found he made a few wrong choices when hot in attack and also some poor passes marching up field in attack either going to ground or behind the man. Hopefully, its just a matter of getting accustomed to playing at a new club and the team getting used to his style. I also think that although McWhirter did a solid job, (B. Tuqiri included) fitness permitting and after some solid game time in Reserves getting up a bit of match fitness Milne will eventually occupy the 10 jersey later in the year with his big boot and assured passing the best of the 10's at the club.
I thought Ready and Parry were a constant menace at the breakdown bordering on the legal parameters of the game at times but fair play to both lads, they did everything they could to slow down GPS ball today, and demanded some special attention.
All in all was a great game of rugby played by two very good sides, special mention to the Easts club for the atmosphere they put on each time my beloved Gallopers go down to Coorparoo, it's always a fun day with plenty of things for the kids to do, cold brews and a loud passionate home crowd to ark up any over sensitive visitors from across the bridge during the game all for the love of the club you may (or may not) barack for, all in good fun just the way it should be on a Saturday arvo at the footy. Cheers to the Tigers for a great day, hopefully we host as well you guys on the return fixture down at Yoku.

Easts match report written by yours truly is up!
For all of the class of the Easts backline I really feel that their forwards have been weak for the last two weeks and unlike last week the backs couldn't compensate against a worthy GPS backline.

Just a quick update from the two Uni games played this week. I am not the best at giving insightful details to the game but will do my best ).
Tuesday night had Breakers and Uni battle it out. I remember the scores at half time were reasonably close, but by that stage I was helping deal with our fullback's broken jaw - the prelude to which resulted in the Breakers 7 and Jamie receiving a yellow card about 29mins in. The Breakers were solid around the park in the first half but dropped away in intesity by the 60min mark and we ran in some easy points.
Saturday saw us back up at the Sunshine Coast on an absolutely glorious day. I am guessing the quick turnaround in games and late changes (after the warmup!) led to a rather nailbiting and frustrating - for Uni - first 60 mins. But that absolutely doesn't take away the fact that the Stingrays matched their name and came out full of sting and guns blazing for the full 80 mins. I don't think any of those guys left much in the tank at the end of the game. Uni started to play our game about 20 or so minutes out from fulltime, overall we were lucky to eek out the win and get the bonus point of four tries.
On a side note it was wonderful to see an ex Red Heavy Steve Cook return to Premier Rugby for the Stingrays after a few years gallivanting around the place. Cheffie is a firm favourite at Stade, and great to see he hasn't lost much of his niggly ways even if they were turned against us this time! He will definitely add some starch to their forward pack.

I think you hit it on the head, a Butler-less squad robs Easts of one its most potent ball running options in the forwards. Paraka and Sanday seem to be set piece specialists while young Ready and Lafaitele are probably a year or 2 off realising their real ball running potential to earn hard yards up front to enable Brandon to create opportunities out wide.
This predicament in my opinion puts way too much pressure on Brandon to find holes in the back field when kicking or putting his backs into space over the ad line with his passing game. Sooner or later I'd say once Toua and Seuteni play to their potential it should free up White at 13 to get a few more opportunities via Brandon, cause at the moment after watching a few of the Easts games thus far, White is definitely the form player in that back line, the others seem to treading water at this stage.
Even with this in mind, Easts are still a damn good footy side.

I am feeling alot more positive today. I think Ready is playing really well and going to have a big season and will be Ready to step up to Super Rugby if Hanson or Sai move on next year.
I have been very impressed with Sanday around the paddock and think he is the most likely of the Easts props to go up into Super Rugby.
And once Aiden Toua gets his confidence back he will be once again untouchable in prem rugby.
T. White a fan favourite on this forum and for good reason. But I was super impressed with the GPS 13 aswell. How old is he? I hope the Super Rugby sides such as the Force and Rebels look closely at QLD Prem Rugby.

This weekend will be a very telling weekend for the dogs I feel. GPS are looking very good this season, and hopefully wests can get one over them in reserves and premier grade.
Wests haven't been as that impressive leading into the match. However in saying that Wests put up a solid performance against a souths team which had a solid run of results coming into the game, where wests on the other hand had a belting from brothers and a rained out fixture.
A decent showing in prems and reserves, coupled with a number of premier grade 22 players coming back from injury bodes only well for the dogs for this weekend.
Sam Greene is getting better with every game and once his partnership with Nigel Genia fully develops i can see some great things on the horizon.
In saying that GPS are a form team at the moment, and have quite an imposing pack.
