QLD Colts 2024

How are the Colts squads shaping up for 2024?

Will the Brethren be the team to beat again and who will challenge them from going back to back? 2024 should be another cracking year of Colts rugby!

In terms of new coaching staff, it appears Wests have pulled out the big guns recruiting in ex-Bulldogs 1st Graders and club legends Phil Mooney, the mercurial and brilliant former-Wallaby Chris Latham and 2022 Hospitals Cup winner in Harry Higgins, so the Bulldogs have done well with a formidable coaching team!

2024 should be another cracking year of Colts rugby!

Thoughts and players to watch this year?

Good trial matches Wests V Brothers in Colts grades. Colts 1 was an excellent game. Wests ran out deserving winners. A few ex Brothers juniors amongst the West colts 1 enjoyed that I'm sure. Very good Wests team, forwards were outstanding and played all over the Brothers forwards in general play and set piece. Outstanding goal kicking and real team effort across the park for Wests. Brothers have work to do but would not be surprised to see these 2 teams meet in GF.

Cheers Reg. I just noticed there also seems to be something in either yesterday’s or today’s Courier Mail. But there’s a paywall.

I noticed on wests instagram post when they named the colts team that the game will be streamed on rugby explorer?

Great initiative by whoever’s doing this (qld rugby, RA?) hopefully it’s geo blocked to France & Japan, don’t need scouts seeing our stars of tomorrow.

Based on pre-season trial form and yesterday’s Colts 1 results, Wests and possibly Norths will be the big improvers in 2024 in what looks to be an evenly matched Colts 1 competition. With Brothers having the bye, they’ll be keen to put in a performance against Easts next weekend to show that they’re the clear favourites to go back-to-back! Should be a great season of Colts rugby!!!

Hard to gauge after one game but certainly the comp looks pretty even - that was a pretty stacked Souths team the Norths lads got over

The Filth are favourites every year …. just ask them!

They always recruit well and have depth in there squads with players returning from Reds U18’s duties from earlier in the year mixed in with some new recruits from the UK. They’ll be in the mix again this year for sure.
