Western Force's finals aspirations have taken a massive dive before the new Super 14 competition has even started with star recruit Andre Pretorius ruled out for the entire season.

Pretorius, who was lured to the club as a replacement for flyhalf Matt Giteau, suffered a season-ending hamstring injury at training on Wednesday.

The Force will ask the Australian Rugby Union if they can replace Pretorius, who was signed as the club's marquee international player.

holy crap, said alot of shit about him being a crock but fully expected him to actually get on the field, going to be a very tough year out west, hopefully they can sign someone on the fly (no pun intended) to cover cos they dont really have the depth on paper to cope.

I hope he made a lot of money on the contract, because no team will risk signing him again after this. His career is over.

JOC (James O'Connor) to ten?
i reckon he is still to young, and ive said it before and will say it again he is a better gap runner than playmaker, he should stay at I2 or I5

JOC (James O'Connor) should definatley stay at 12 permanently.

stefano is probably too young, does daruda even have a contract anymore?

which probably means bartholemouz as the pivot option.

this really is shocking news, brumbies should do the right thing and allow lealifano to go to the wild wild west.

Are the Super 14 clubs allowed to sign players on loan like they do in football? Then Melbourne could sign up a 5/8 then loan him out to Force for the 2010 season. Just a thought.

Hope they ticked the insurance box, who would have thought Andre picking up an injury

TWF must be in meltdown

"Obviously a major blow however much of the reason for getting him in the first place would have already been achieved with the most intense period of interaction with the Squad having taken place already during the pre-season, so it is not a total write of as some may be feeling." - TWF 20I0

thats right, he has already achieved the goals the force had for him by completing pre season, who cares about the actual comp, so your wrong gags, no meltdown at all, the real winner is preseason i just hope the rebels and the rest of the australian franchises are taking notes.

Shocker of a start to the season for the Force, gotta hope they can somehow find a replacement. JOC (James O'Connor) at 10 would be a disaster.

matt brandon playing in japan could be a good option.

My troubadors list is copyright and I demand a fee if any of them return to Oz. Got that, Mitch? And you, too, Macqueen?

Really disappointed that I don't get to see Pretorius running around this year, and tragic news for the Force. Was hoping he'd get through the S14 injury free, but to be honest, I'm not that surprised - but had expected at least a few games.

So Bartholomeusz to 10 now with Harris the backup? Ouch. Would keep J'OC at 12. Suddenly Bartho becomes a key signing - good move by the Force. I hope he can make a good fist of it.

TWF asking about Hilgendorf - no chance, wants to play for Japan in the World Cup. Joking mention of Cirpriani too. Daruda is a shot though. Gollings was mentioned and may be a shot, but I don't think he can be signed as Pretorius will still be the marquee player.

Makes you wonder what sort of a physical the Force did on Pretorius before signing him. It's one thing soccer are insistent about, especially if a potential signing has a dodgy injury record.

If anyone knows what physical tests the Force asked of Pretorius, please let us know.

The Brumbies and Tahs have 5/8's to burn. For the good of Aussie rugby they should lend their spare. Beale or To'omua would appreciate the game time and less splinters.

Hear, hear. And it's a long way from Mt Druitt for Kurtley.

On second thoughts, what about sending Quade west? ::) ::) ::)
